Hikvision announced a brand-new addition to its DeepinView camera line: the Dedicated Subseries. This unprecedented new addition loads a batch of AI-powered deep learning algorithms into each unit, boasting stunning performance and cost-effective pricing. Enhanced AI capabilities Over the last few years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied in many ways in security markets. As technology advances, AI chipset performance has improved to enable massive computing power using various algorithms and contributing to multi-intelligence functionality and higher accuracy. The new Dedicated DeepinView Cameras are an example of these advances, incorporating several AI-powered deep learning algorithms in one unit. What’s more, these algorithms can be switched essentially putting 5 or 6 unique cameras in one housing. “Embedding switchable algorithms is a significant step for Hikvision to take in its AI product development. In a world of ever-changing technologies and functionalities, this approach creates great value for end users to try new technologies to ensure security, as well as to implement business intelligence and other applications,” says Frank Zhang, President of the International Product and Solution Center at Hikvision. “The benefits of our new offerings are numerous including reduced costs, improved efficiency, and speedy and effective incident response.” Switchable algorithms The Dedicated DeepinView cameras combine two product categories – the first is vehicle analysis where cameras combine automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) with vehicle attribute recognition. Attributes include the vehicle’s make, color, and direction of movement. Typical uses include installation at checkpoints of city streets and at entrances & exits of buildings or industrial parks. Models in the second category boast six switchable deep learning algorithms in one camera housing, including facial recognition, face counting, hard hat detection, perimeter protection, queue management, and multiple-target-type detection (detecting multiple targets and multiple types of targets at once). Accordingly, users can simply enable an algorithm manually for dedicated use, then later switch the algorithm as needed. Here is one example: hard hat detection. This algorithm can be used on construction sites to ensure safety and compliance. Specially-equipped DeepinView cameras can precisely distinguish a worker on the site wearing a hard hat from those without, and automatically deliver alerts when the hard hat violation is detected. Another example: in a retail setting, a face-counting function can be enabled to precisely count customers entering and leaving the store. Repeat customers and store staff can be automatically excluded in the process, helping store managers count new customers with precision. Flexibility among algorithms enables users to also switch among: Perimeter protection – to monitor outdoor areas needing security and deliver accurate alarms upon intrusions. Facial recognition – to grant authorized access to restricted areas in various organizations, such as school laboratories, archive rooms, and hospital pharmacies. Queue management – to better understand customer wait times, optimize staff levels, and enhance customer experience. HD clarity, day and night Equipped with Hikvision’s DarkFighter and LightFighter technologies, these cameras capture vivid and color images in extremely low-light environments or in scenes with strong backlighting where color and brightness balance is extremely difficult. Smooth Streaming mode further ensures a high-quality live feed. The Dedicated DeepinView Cameras are available in 2, 4, 8, and 12 MP resolutions for customers to choose from. More practical and deployable features Furthermore, metadata is supported to allow third-party platforms to receive data from Hikvision cameras for real-time video analysis or recorded into footage archives to enable rapid searching forensic evidence. Finally, these camera models also offer Vibration Detection for outdoor use, which detects and notifies users of vandalism. Hikvision announces the launch of a new generation of its signature AcuSense products, with significant updates. “Hikvision AcuSense products were introduced in 2018, with the idea of making intelligent alarms and services available to small businesses and residential customers for the first time,” says Frank Zhang, President of International Product and Solution Center at Hikvision. “In a nutshell, AcuSense technology enables security personnel to focus on human and vehicle events rather than insignificant objects, so they can act more efficiently which helps save time and costs, while end users can get full control of their security system anytime, from anywhere.” Improved alarm accuracy The latest Hikvision AcuSense devices are engineered with an upgraded deep learning algorithm, which analyzes live video streams and labels them as “human,” “vehicle,” or “other events.” Those labeled as human and vehicle will trigger alarms for security staff, while other events such as rain drops, animals, or the movement of foliage, for example, will be drastically disregarded. The result is a striking reduction in false alarms – now with an accuracy approaching 98%. In this way, security personnel can focus on genuine security issues and take action. Additionally, related videos are automatically sorted by categories for easier search. Enhanced motion detection with human / vehicle classification Customers familiar with Motion Detection will appreciate the capabilities of AcuSense technology as well. Taking users’ habits into full consideration, Hikvision designed AcuSense products to integrate human and vehicle classifications with motion detection. More specifically, when motion is detected, the system analyzes whether or not it is associated with a human or a vehicle, and whether an alarm should be triggered. So, when users enable the motion detection function, they can enjoy the same level of alarm accuracy afforded by Hikvision’s AcuSense technology. Flashing light and two-way voice conversation When real-time deterrence is needed, Hikvision also offers camera models with a flashing light and auditory warning. As soon as an alarm is triggered, the built-in light flashes. Simultaneously, security personnel can communicate with the person who triggered the alarm to confirm their authorization, thanks to the built-in speaker and microphone in the camera. Of note, the latest AcuSense cameras even support customized audio tracks, which can be pre-recorded to suit various environments. Better performance in low-light environments The latest AcuSense camera lenses are equipped with an aperture reaching up to F1.4. This technology allows more light to enter the lens, for optimized image brightness, and better performance in low-light environments. Larger detection area Compared with previous AcuSense cameras, this new generation extends target classification distances from 10, 15, or 22 meters to 20, 25, or 30 meters, depending on the model. Customers can choose from 2 MP, 4 MP, or 4K resolutions, as well as dome, turret and bullet housings to suit their specific installation requirements. Flow control to support social distancing As the world moves to the new normal and measures are lifted, governments have put in place restrictions to support social distancing and avoid any new spread of COVID-19. Managing and controlling the numbers and access of people in and out of stores and offices, or indeed any building open to the public is crucial in supporting social distancing measures. The importance of real-time data accuracy Measuring occupancy as it happens with immediate updates of the people count is therefore critical as could lead to overcrowding, making social distancing hard to control and causing a risk to safety. The data needs to be gathered in real-time and transmitted instantly to the integrated occupancy software platform in order to give an exact picture on how many people are in a store, room or a specific area of a building. Another aspect to consider is the precision in the count of people going in or out of a store, making sure there are no errors in the count that over time accumulate minimising the reliability of the information, and which could again create unsafe situations or impact negatively on the store sales, if for instance no access was allowed based on incorrect reporting that occupancy threshold had been reached. The OPTEX Akribos VC-1020 is a real-time and multi-directional indoor people counter that can provide more than 97% accuracy. It ignores trollies and baskets and manages groups of individuals by tracking the direction of every individual, even complicated movements such as people turning back or standing still. Now featuring MQTT protocol, the Akribos sensor can be integrated with third party analytics software transmitting instantly the data gathered which can then be used to create key-performance reports, dashboards and visual displays to control occupancy levels. A long-term solution for businesses Many businesses and retailers are using their security staff to manage access and control queue volumes and as such, installers have an opportunity to become the principal point of contact for bringing new solutions regarding occupancy level and social distancing. The solution with OPTEX Akribos solves the issue created by the pandemic, but also solves the ongoing challenge of efficiently and accurately monitoring occupancy levels within a busy working or retail environment. The analytics and people traffic reporting can help retailers manage their staff and product placement better, and in the office to have a more efficient building management based on occupancy level.Add to Compare
Health organisations around the world have created the common awareness that maintaining a safe distance between people is one of the best practices we have to avoid being exposed to COVID-19 and in slowing its spread. As various countries and regions push to reopen businesses and relax stay-at-home orders, social distancing remains an ongoing requirement. More than that, crowd density information is also considered a significant reference in managing the "social distance" of workplaces, businesses and public spaces. Business owners are working hard to keep employees, customers and visitors protected. Dealing effectively with "density" – a new imperative for management and operations – complicates staffing and interpersonal interaction. Limiting the number of people to ensure safety In the current situation, public and private managers and authorities have to do more than ever before to keep people safe, and in many cases efficient calculation of customer traffic will be essential. Hikvision’s Flow Control Solution uses people counting cameras and digital signage, which provides a dynamic on-screen display to show users how many people are entering and leaving a building or an area, and sends real-time alerts in case pre-defined capacity thresholds are exceeded. These people counting camera utilise highly accurate 3D binocular stereo vision and Deep Learning algorithms, making complex counts easy, even in multi-door sites. More important, the Flow Control Solution can be easily and rapidly deployed. It is designed to be simple to use and highly accurate, with options to suit all potential application scenarios. In locations with a single entrance, one people counting camera can be installed at the entrance and connected to digital signage. For multi-entry scenarios, people counting cameras can be installed at each entrance and exit, equipped with I-Series NVRs or HikCentral to calculate numbers of people entering or leaving, so as to accurately provide real-time number data. Multiple entries and exits For example, a supermarket can install a clear and easy-to-understand, dynamic data number display at each entrance to provide real-time updates for people waiting to enter. An alert is generated when the pre-configured maximum is reached, and an audio alarm can be triggered if anyone attempts to enter before the numbers go below that threshold. At present, with expenses more critical than ever, users can use the Flow Control Solution to automatically monitor the situation, empowering businesses and possible reducing the required number of security guards and other resources. Maintaining a safe social distance in public In areas where crowds are unavoidable, such as cash registers in supermarkets and the ticket kiosks at public transportation hubs, managing distances between people queuing (standing in line) is also critical. Authorities in various locations have established specific guidelines and legislation in this area, balancing needs and risks for citizens. Hikvision Dual Lens Cameras (DS-2CD6825G0/C-I(V)(S)) help retail stores and other businesses measure social distancing, and its advanced 3D binocular stereo vision and deep learning algorithm can be configured to trigger alarms according to local regulations and requirements. Users can set the minimum contact distance threshold needed; when the distance becomes less than this pre-set threshold, an instant alarm and popup will appear with audio and video linkage. And there’s more Alongside the Density Control Solution, Hikvision also offers a Mask Detection Solution. This technology ensures that anyone entering a premise is wearing a face mask when they are required to do so. Those without a mask will not be granted entry. The Mask Detection Solution can be delivered in a variety of formats depending on user needs: added to a specialty camera or a Hikvision DeepinMind NVR for users with existing camera systems, integrated into Hikvision’s Temperature Screening Thermal Solution, or as part of a MinMoe door access unit with built-in face detection technology. Entry can be denied if a mask is not worn and/or an out-of-range skin-surface temperature is detected. As businesses begin to emerge from lockdown, they need to find ways to reduce risks of furthering the spread of the virus. This affects whole populations and all their normal activities – from getting coffee on the way to work and boarding public transportation, to shopping and eating out. But there are some technologies that they can turn to – innovations that will facilitate a “new normal” and keep people safe. And Hikvision will be there, every step of the way. A thermal imaging camera is an effective screening device for detecting individuals with elevated skin temperature. This type of monitoring can provide a rapid screening approach at high-traffic areas, like airports, hospitals, office buildings, and other areas where people congregate, to help identify those whose body temperature is elevated. Using a non-contact screening solution is one of the current measures to discover quickly individuals with elevated skin temperature (EST). The detection method is designed to help initial screening of EST, with use of medical equipment to further verify symptoms, while reducing manual testing time and the safety risk to those involved in detection. Hikvision’s Temperature Screening Solution, with various product types and wide range of applications, is designed for the detection of skin-surface temperatures to achieve rapid and safe initial screening in public areas. Its flexibility means it can be used in a multitude of scenarios. Meanwhile, efficiency and cost is important for users. The question is, what is the best solution for their needs? Temperature screening with fast deployment For high-traffic scenarios, such as: urban traffic (train station, bus station, subway, airport, etc.), buildings (such as schools, enterprise parks, office buildings, shopping malls, etc.), a temporary temperature screening scheme can be used. Fast deployment is achieved separately with various devices (thermographic cameras / thermographic hand cameras / metal detector doors etc.) This temperature screening with fast deployment is economical and practical, and the deployment process and subsequent disassembly are easy and convenient. The temperature measurement accuracy is guaranteed to be within ± 0.5 ° C or ± 0.3 ° C (with a Blackbody calibrator) to meet the needs of initial screening. Temperature screening with access control In enterprises, schools, factories, communities and other internal areas where people are moving through, the MinMoe wall-mounting touch-free temperature screening terminal (DS-K1T671TM-3XF) can be used. The touch-free nature of the terminal makes access easier and safer, suitable for long-term temperature screening with access control for any building with a high footfall of people. Temperature screening on patrol The temperature measurement on patrol solution can also be called a manual inspection program on the move. It can be quickly put into use at fixed entrances and exits for emergencies, for example at external events or building sites, or checkpoints. It can also be used for flexible inspection in high-speed exits, cabins, and engine rooms. Not only that, Hikvision thermographic bullet cameras support simultaneous temperature screening of multiple people, which can greatly improve the detection efficiency in busy scenarios. Effective video surveillance of an area requires clear, sharp and hi-res images so the operator has complete situational awareness in any weather or light conditions. Cameras continuously film monitored areas and so acquire an abundance of data-rich images. The complexity and volume of information can cause operators to lose attention, making the whole system vulnerable to mistakes and false alarms. It is now possible to reduce these critical issues, which exponentially increase a security system’s risks and operating costs, by using video analysis applied to surveillance cameras. Analysing video footage has become essential to the intelligent management of images and alarms. It ensures that potential intrusions that could threaten people, goods or property are detected and prevented. Videotec is proud to announce that is has released a “robust and smart” video analysis technology, integrated into ULISSE EVO cameras, that offers an end-to-end solution for preventative detection of intrusions in outdoor monitoring applications of critical infrastructures, industrial sites and perimeters. Videotec Analytics is the result of more than 10 years of research and design, carried out by a team of R&D professionals, cooperating together with prestigious international universities and research centres and is designed to be extremely reliable and proactive and be simple to configure and easy to use. Outdoor surveillance specialists The ULISSE EVO camera with Videotec Analysis technology comprises robust algorithms for accurate PTZ detection and precise and smooth auto-tracking, even in the most adverse external environmental conditions. The operator will have complete situational awareness no matter the circumstances. The Advantages of Videotec Analytics ULISSE EVO with Videotec Analytics means: Maximum preventative anti-intrusion efficiency A reduction in human error and therefore Reduced storage space needed: only necessary footage is recorded. Optimal external operation in the most critical and complex atmospheric conditions The GeoMove&Track function allows two ULISSE EVO to communicate with each other through intelligent language, create advanced actions, and perform a tracking based on the geo-coordinates of the target. It gives the immediate benefit of having a complete, turnkey positioning and tracking solution, guaranteed by Videotec. Unbeatable detection performance even at long distances, thanks to the analysis of detail-rich high-definition images. Reduced time and effort needed to monitor, detect and search the recordings for anomalous events. The resulting security system is highly efficient, reliable and convenient. How does Videotec Analytics work? Every time there is an alarm, the auto-tracking automatically activates and event metadata is sent to the VMS via the ONVIF protocol. Simultaneously, the security operators are then alerted and recording starts. The ULISSE EVO keeps the moving target at the centre of the frame and zooms in on the target to make recognition easier. The metadata sent to the VMS system can be used to frame the target with a bounding box for clear identification of the subject or it can be used to activate alarms or begin recording. How to configure Videotec Analytics A simple initial configuration allows ULISSE EVO to detect an object or person present in a sensitive area. Depending on the rules set by the user, an alarm is displayed and auto-tracking activated if an object enters, exits, or appears or stops more than allowed in an area. Thanks to an intuitive management interface, up to ten rules for each pre-set can be configured quickly. Any violation of these rules will activate auto-tracking and other scheduled actions. line crossing (the target crosses a line in one direction or multiple directions) entering/leaving area (the target enters or leaves a specific area) appearing in area (the target appears in a specific area loitering (the target stays in a specific area longer than a defined time) target classification (for people and vehicles) function of detection mask (disables detection activity in a part of the image) Function of video tampering detection (an ONVIF alarm occurs if the camera lens is obscured or covered to block the view) Calibration and target classification with Videotec Analytics The operator can calibrate, via a very intuitive web interface, the scene’s point of view, so it is possible to render the targets in 3D. Targets can be put into three categories: generic object, person, vehicle. Targets will then trigger an alarm based on their size and so false alarms as a result of irrelevant objects appearing in the frame are drastically reduced. MOBOTIX AG recently launched the new camera platform, M15. A platform which is based on the new MOBOTIX 5 Megapixel Technology, it offers two exchangeable sensor modules and further builds on MOBOTIX‘ innovative camera platform concept. "The M15 offers the latest in MOBOTIX‘ camera system technology and follows a proud tradition that we have started over 13 years ago with the M1 and have continued with the M10 and M12," says Dr. Ralf Hinkel, founder of MOBOTIX AG. "We are confident that the M15 will be breaking ground in many ways; technically, as a product platform concept, design-wise and because it is developed in a unique combination between end-users and MOBOTIX". The M15 is naturally developed around the MOBOTIX decentralised system technology which saves costs, management and network resources for the end-user. The M15 product platform offers two exchangeable 5 Megapixel sensor modules which are exactly the same modules as for the recently launched S15. "We have developed the M15 in close cooperation with our end-users and partners. Our end-users want a dynamic platform that can change with their current and future needs, and our partners want a platform for many different applications,“ continued Dr. Hinkel. As the sensor modules can be easily exchanged by the end-user, they will always have an up-to-date camera surveillance system regardless of original mounting place and, at that time, the intended focus of that specific camera. “The end-users and our partners can today choose up to 5 completely different sensor combinations for this platform and in the future there will be even more," said Dr. Hinkel. By using 5 Megapixel sensors for the M15 camera platform, the users will gain more than four times better light sensitivity in all conditions. The new sensor technology offers a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second and the zoom capabilities are increased by 27% in colour and by more than 200% in black-and-white. "It is important to emphasize that the M15 is a Day-and-Night camera not a day/night. The difference is huge between these two concepts, the M15 sensor modules, depending on configuration, are always able to offer one day and one night image simultaneously, which is especially important in low light conditions as well as in no light," commented Dr. Hinkel. The new M15 camera platform is IP66 certified and is successfully tested at a temperature range from -30 °C to +60 °C. Following MOBOTIX established product strategy, the M15 does not need any additional housing, fans, heating etc. “The user can take our new camera platform and literally install it wherever he or she wants to. We have people using our products in very extreme environments and they will be very happy with the M15,” said Dr. Hinkel. The M15 camera platform only needs around 5 watt to be fully functional, which both saves costs and energy for the users. “The new M15 is marked with the MOBOTIX Green IP-Video logo for being exceptionally environment-friendly, which is a social conscience initiative that MOBOTIX have taken and I feel very strongly about,” concluded Dr. Ralf Hinkel. A special advantage: The M15 is fully integrated with the new revolutionary MxActivitySensor technology for intelligent motion detection that reduces false alarms and errors considerably. The M15 is available over authorised MOBOTIX distributors and partners.Add to Compare

The S14 FlexMount from MOBOTIX, the world’s first flexible double hemispheric camera, is now available. The camera, which is available in both mono (S14M) and dual (S14D) versions, features miniature lens units and offers a wide range of application opportunities. For instance, the S14D can be equipped with two hemispheric lens units with integrated microphone that are connected to the main housing via cables. This makes it possible to fully secure two rooms located next to or on top of one another with just one single S14. The slim design of the module units, which are available in white and black, permit an extremely discreet installation. Two rooms secured with one single camera The S14 FlexMount offers the option to set up two hemispheric lens units simultaneously in order to completely cover two adjacent rooms with just one single S14D. When installed in a certain way, the S14D can also see around corners or secure indoor and outdoor areas at the same time. The two sensors allow the S14 to generate two distortion-corrected, high-resolution 180° panorama images, each with a resolution of 3.1 megapixels. All other MOBOTIX lenses, from super-wide angle to tele lens, will be available in the near future as day or night versions. The S14 is the world's first hemispheric day-and-night camera. When both modules with black-and-white and colour sensors are mounted directly next to each other and cover the same area, the camera automatically chooses the best available mode depending on the lighting conditions. This provides for excellent colours in daylight as well as superb light sensitivity in dark environments. Panning and zooming into the image is done purely electronically. The user is provided with detailed views and other image sections without any mechanical movement, meaning that there is no wear-and-tear to the camera and no maintenance is required. Weatherproof, discreet and energy efficient Both module units and the separate housing with the latest dual camera board are weatherproof in accordance with IP65 and operate in a temperature range of -30°C to +60°C (-22°F to +140°F). The flat housing, including flash memory with up to 64 GB and all external connectors (Ethernet, MiniUSB, MxBus), can be installed discreetly and with optimal protection behind a wall or ceiling panel so that only the lens units in their ultra-compact protective housing are visible. Power is supplied very cost effective via a network cable (PoE). At less than five watt-hours, the energy consumption is extremely low. Wide range of application opportunities The camera's technical features and very discreet mounting open up a whole range of application opportunities. In L-shaped rooms, for example, the two sensor modules can be positioned at the corner in correct angles to each other, therefore capturing the entire room without any blind spots. Therefore, the S14 is particularly well-suited for use in hotels, banks and retail stores where the highest levels of security and discretion are required. The S14 can also demonstrate its strengths at security gates and in offices. MOBOTIX also offers the appropriate installation accessories for mounting the sensor module on thicker walls. Using several extension pieces (each approx. 40 mm), longer "tunnel holes" through a wall can also be bridged. MOBOTIX software included free of charge As usual with all MOBOTIX products, the complete software for configuration and operation of the camera is integrated directly into the camera. Additionally, professional video management software can be downloaded from the website free of charge.Add to Compare

Today’s environment has evolved into something that according to some may seem unexplainable. But in the context of video surveillance, this is something that we understand. Allow me to shed some light and understanding in terms of security and why it truly is a necessity. Security is not a luxury, it is a necessity. An essential practice now peaking the interests of all businesses small and large. A video surveillance system is a cost effective option that does not require monitoring fees. As business slows, temporarily shuts down or closes, an increase in vacant properties is inevitable. This pandemic will continue to put severe pressure on many businesses around the country. With so many considered non-essential, it is really sad to see how many must shutter their doors and lay off employees. Keeping an eye out for suspicious activity using a commercial grade surveillance system that supports advanced analytics, may end up saving your potential customers thousands of dollars down the road. Demand for video surveillance and security products We can certainly draw on the conclusion that security is a “need” more so than a “want”. Times like this just further cement that thought process. In today’s economic spiral, people aren’t actively looking for lighting controls or home theaters. What they look for is a way to keep their loved ones safe, protect their homes, businesses and property. Video surveillance technology provides added security for you, your family and your business In my opinion, you will see video surveillance and security product sales skyrocket in the coming months and years. It has been reported that response times for first responders may be impacted as a result of COVID-19, leaving those with bad intent more time to ransack a property knowing that law enforcement may be slow to respond. Criminals will always take advantage of the situation. All we can do as a community is use common sense, stay vigilant through these odd times and watch out for one another. For some of us that may mean mitigating risks with technology. Affordable video monitoring solutions Having a solution that can quickly and securely share video footage may be the difference between identifying a perpetrator and becoming a victim. Ella, a video search platform developed by IC Realtime, makes every second of video instantly searchable and shareable, either with the authorities or your neighborhood social apps. Plus it is compatible with any RTSP streaming device. To wrap this up, it’s not about pointing out the obvious, it’s really about bringing awareness as to how technologies can be implemented to provide peace of mind without breaking the bank. Video surveillance technology is a way to do that and provide added security for you, your family and your business.
The safeguarding of premises through the monitoring of entrance and exit points has traditionally been a very manual aspect of security. Human operators have been relied on to make decisions about who to admit and deny based on levels of authorisation and the appropriate credentials. But the access control business, like many industries before it, is undergoing its own digital transformation; one where the protection of premises, assets and people is increasingly delivered by interconnected systems utilising IoT devices and cloud infrastructure to offer greater levels of security and protection. Modern access control solutions range from simple card readers to two factor authentication systems using video surveillance as a secondary means of identification, right through to complex networks of thermal cameras, audio speakers and sensors. These systems, connected through the cloud, can be customised and scaled to meet the precise requirements of today’s customer. And it’s the ease of cloud integration, combined with open technologies and platforms that is encouraging increasing collaboration and exciting developments while rendering legacy systems largely unfit for purpose. Remote management and advanced diagnostics Cloud technology and IoT connectivity means remote management and advanced diagnostics form an integral part of every security solution.Cloud technology and IoT connectivity means remote management and advanced diagnostics form an integral part of every security solution. For example, as the world faces an unprecedented challenge and the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause disruption, the ability to monitor and manage access to sites remotely is a welcome advantage for security teams who might otherwise have to check premises in person and risk breaking social distancing regulations. The benefits of not physically having to be on site extend to the locations within which these technologies can be utilised. As an example, within a critical infrastructure energy project, access can be granted remotely for maintenance on hard to reach locations. Advanced diagnostics can also play a part in such a scenario. When access control is integrated with video surveillance and IP audio, real-time monitoring of access points can identify possible trespassers with automated audio messages used to deter illegal access and making any dangers clear. And with video surveillance in the mix, high quality footage can be provided to authorities with real-time evidence of a crime in progress. Comprehensive protection in retail Within the retail industry, autonomous, cashier-less stores are already growing in popularity The use of connected technologies for advanced protection extends to many forward-looking applications. Within the retail industry, autonomous, cashier-less stores are already growing in popularity. Customers are able to use mobile technology to self-scan their chosen products and make payments, all from using a dedicated app. From an access control and security perspective, connected doors can be controlled to protect staff and monitor shopper movement. Remote management includes tasks such as rolling out firmware updates or restarting door controllers, with push notifications sent immediately to security personnel in the event of a breach or a door left open. Remote monitoring access control in storage In the storage facility space, this too can now be entirely run through the cloud with remote monitoring of access control and surveillance providing a secure and streamlined service. There is much to gain from automating the customer journey, where storage lockers are selected online and, following payment, customers are granted access. Through an app the customer can share their access with others, check event logs, and activate notifications. With traditional padlocks the sharing of access is not as practical, and it’s not easy for managers to keep a record of storage locker access. Online doors and locks enable monitoring capabilities and heightened security for both operators and customers. The elimination of manual tasks, in both scenarios, represents cost savings. When doors are connected to the cloud, their geographical location is rendered largely irrelevant. Online doors and locks enable monitoring capabilities and heightened security for both operators and customers They become IoT devices which are fully integrated and remotely programmable from anywhere, at any time. This creates a powerful advantage for the managers of these environments, making it possible to report on the status of a whole chain of stores, or to monitor access to numerous storage facilities, using the intelligence that the technology provides from the data it collects. Open platforms power continuous innovation All of these examples rely on open technology to make it possible, allowing developers and technology providers to avoid the pitfalls that come with the use of proprietary systems. The limitations of such systems have meant that the ideas, designs and concepts of the few have stifled the creativity and potential of the many, holding back innovation and letting the solutions become tired and their application predictable. Proprietary systems have meant that solution providers have been unable to meet their customers’ requirements until the latest upgrade becomes available or a new solution is rolled out. This use of open technology enables a system that allows for collaboration, the sharing of ideas and for the creation of partnerships to produce ground-breaking new applications of technology. Open systems demonstrate a confidence in a vendor’s own solutions and a willingness to share and encourage others to innovate and to facilitate joint learning. An example of the dynamic use of open technology is Axis’ physical access control hardware, which enables partners to develop their own cloud-based software for control and analysis of access points, all the while building and expanding on Axis’ technology platform. Modern access control solutions range from simple card readers to two factor authentication systems using video surveillance as a secondary means of identification Opportunities for growth Open hardware, systems and platforms create opportunities for smaller and younger companies to participate and compete, giving them a good starting point, and some leverage within the industry when building and improving upon existing, proven technologies. This is important for the evolution and continual relevance of the physical security industry in a digitally enabled world. Through increased collaboration across technology platforms, and utilising the full range of possibilities afforded by the cloud environment, the manufacturers, vendors and installers of today’s IP enabled access control systems can continue to create smart solutions to meet the ever-changing demands and requirements of their customers across industry.
Large event venues spend significant resources on physical security, and the vast majority invest in video surveillance systems as a way of monitoring public areas such as parking lots, garages and seating, as well as “backstage” areas such as loading docks and offices. Even though the camera footage is often preserved for investigating incidents, for the most part, video footage goes untapped because – realistically – security staff cannot constantly and efficiently monitor cameras in real-time or review the high volumes of archived video. Video analytics powered by Artificial Intelligence Increasingly, event venues are overcoming this challenge and maximising this video data by investing in intelligent video surveillance. In this article, I will explore how the combination of traditional surveillance and groundbreaking video content analytics enables event venues to not only optimise physical security and safety, but also improve customer service, streamline operations, and gather valuable business intelligence. Deep learning and artificial intelligence-based video content analytic systems detect, identify, extract, and catalog all the objects that appear in video footage based on classes and attributes such as gender, appearance similarity, color or size. This – along with behavioral detection, such as object interactions, dwell times, and navigation paths, as well as face and license plate recognition – enables searchable, actionable and quantifiable analysis of video. The technology makes it easy for users to accelerate post-event investigations, improve situational awareness, and derive critical business insights from video data. Accelerate post-event investigations, improve situational awareness, and derive critical business insights Accelerating investigations Where there are crowds, it’s not uncommon for medical or criminal incidents to transpire. In the aftermath, security teams must quickly understand the scene and, by making video searchable, video analytics helps them efficiently gather information or evidence from multiple camera. Whereas a manual search of video footage would require hours, if not days, of valuable time and staff resources – while being subject to human error – a video content analytics system enables effective multi-video search using a variety of filters, so that post-incident investigations can be focused and, thereby, accelerated. For instance, if witnesses claim that a man in a yellow shirt caused a disturbance and then drove away in a blue pickup truck, security could filter video to review instances where people or vehicles matching those descriptions appeared, and then focus their investigation on relevant video evidence. For the same example, if the perpetrator was still at large in the venue, security managers would want to track the person’s movements and, ultimately, apprehend him. Using the same cataloged metadata that drives video search, intelligent video surveillance accelerates real-time response to developing situations from threats and suspicious behaviors to emergencies, or even any behavior that requires closer monitoring or intervention. Something as mundane as an unwieldy queue forming at a concession stand can alert logic that increases operators’ situational awareness and ability to effectively intervene. By understanding developing situations in real-time, they can respond more quickly to prevent or solve a problem. Rule-based real time alerts Users can configure rule-based real-time alerts, based on specific scenarios – such as when people counts in the defined space next to the cashier are higher than the specified threshold, indicating a queue, or when vehicles are detected dwelling in a no-park zone or sensitive security area. In the case of the offender in the yellow shirt, security could configure alerts to notify for appearances of men in yellow shirts or blue pickup trucks within the event complex. If they’re able to extract the perpetrator’s face or license plate from the video search, security officers can also identify and track the specific person and vehicle of interest. Intelligent video surveillance users can compile “watchlists” Object recognition is helpful for tracking specific, identified threats, but it can also be leveraged for locating missing persons or vehicles or offering VIP services to guests who comply. Intelligent video surveillance users can compile “watchlists” – that include persons of interest, such as past agitators, recognised criminals or terrorists, missing persons or VIPs – to be alerted when matches for these faces appear in video. Face recognition can also be used to differentiate recognised employees from visitors that are not authorised to be in certain spaces in order to prevent security breaches. Because camera conditions aren’t always optimal for “in the wild” face and license plate recognition – where lighting conditions or camera angles don’t always allow for a pristine face or plate capture – it is critical to have a comprehensive video content analysis tool for triggering alerts based object classifications and non-personally-identifiable parameters. Optimising operations based on business intelligence While having real-time situational awareness is crucial for proactive intervention to developing situations, understanding long-term activity and trends can be equally important for an events venue or stadium. With video analytics, video surveillance data can be aggregated over time to generate statistical intelligence, trend reports, and data visualisations for operational intelligence. This capability transforms video surveillance from a siloed security tool to an intelligence platform with broad value for business groups across the organisation. Marketing departments can gain visitor demographic information for targeted advertising and product placements. On-site retailers can uncover how visitors navigate their stores and the products or spaces that draw the most attention. Property management can follow heatmaps demonstrating where visitors dwell and the durations they stay at certain exhibits or areas, to base rental and leasing fees on actionable and quantifiable intelligence. Operations managers can more effectively plan and hire staff for events, by analysing visitor traffic trends, entry and exit points and occupancy statistics. Video surveillance data can be aggregated over time to generate statistical intelligence For these reasons and more, event organisations that already rely on CCTV networks should consider how to better leverage those existing investments to deliver substantial value across the organisation. By making video searchable, actionable and quantifiable, intelligent video surveillance empowers event managers to enhance public safety and physical security, while also streamlining operations and improving customer service.
