Traka survey reveals confidence in security industry
Survey results show an increase in the demand to protect portable IT devices
The results also showed that there is an increase in the demand to protect portable IT assets such as iPads, phones and laptops

Traka, the key and asset management specialist, has released its findings after surveying an international network of security distributors at a recent conference, held in Rome.

The survey showed that despite the increase in awareness of data protection, 79% of Traka distributors agreed that customers are most concerned about protecting assets, rather than people or data. However, what is surprising is that only 5% of distributors agreed that their customers were most concerned about protecting people.

Indirect financial loss from lost keys was indicated as the risk CEO’s were most concerned about, with 56% of the distributors agreeing, compared to 32% who indicated that direct financial loss (replacing the key) was the biggest concern. Only 12% agreed that reputational damage was the risk from lost keys CEO’s were most concerned about.

The results also showed that there is an increase in the demand to protect portable IT assets such as iPads, phones and laptops. 56% of Traka distributors agreed that the demand is growing. This in turn presents a valuable argument for intelligent asset management solutions, as the industry is becoming more aware of the need to protect portable IT devices.

The survey also revealed confidence in the security industry, with 50% agreeing that their customers were more concerned about security in 2014, compared to 2013. It also revealed that Traka distributors expect security budgets to increase in 2015, with 50% agreeing, compared to 44% who believe it will remain the same.

Tanveer Choudhry, Global Marketing Manager for Traka said, “Our distributor conference was an opportunity to discuss industry trends and the needs of our customers. The survey results have enabled us to get a clear insight into what challenges our distributor network will face, how we are best able to support them and it also shows where we can grow.”

“The survey has also revealed that customers and CEO’s are not as concerned about data protection and reputational damage as we predicted. This may be because of a lack of awareness on the damage missing data can cause for a business of any size. This is something we intend to investigate further.”

The conference, which was held in Rome, brought together 50 security distributors from 37 different countries to discuss key industry issues. It also allowed Traka to inform them about the products and solutions it can provide to help overcome the challenges end-users will face in 2014.
