Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport has enhanced its physical security systems with the deployment of Genetec™ Security Center, as part of a comprehensive terminal modernisation initiative.

The airport, located near Rock Springs in Sweetwater County, supports over 11,000 flight operations and serves upwards of 50,000 passengers annually. The security upgrade aligns with the airport's strategic goals, including accommodating future expansions and meeting evolving TSA regulations, as well as facilitating potential new carriers and flight paths.

Terminal modernisation project

The airport collaborated with systems integrator Incline Technology to implement the new security measures. This endeavour aimed to replace outdated video surveillance and access control systems with an adaptable and open platform, enabling future upgrades without the limitations of proprietary technology. Nic Hasler, Founder and President of Incline Technology, explained, “Our vision from the start was to deliver a system for RKS that’s easy to operate and support, and ready for future expansion.”

The installation of Genetec Security Center has unified the video surveillance, access control, and alarm systems under one interface. This integration provides comprehensive visibility across the airport, including the terminal, weather station, fuel station, and Sweetwater Aviation facility. As a result, airport personnel can now effectively manage security incidents and daily operations from a centralised platform.

Security and airport operations

The airport has also benefited from the Quick Search feature in Security Center

According to Devon Brubaker, Airport Director at Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport, “Genetec Security Center brings everything into one place, which helps us manage security and airport operations much more efficiently than before.” This newly-installed foundation paves the way for the airport to enhance its capabilities and improve operations continuously.

The airport has also benefited from the Quick Search feature in Security Center. This functionality speeds up investigations by facilitating quicker review of surveillance footage. Following a theft incident in the airport's micro market, staff used Quick Search to swiftly examine video footage, clarifying the situation within minutes and revealing that the item in question had been mislabelled after purchase.

Brubaker further remarked, “We might be a small airport, but investing in Genetec Security Center allows us to operate like a much larger one. The platform helps us work more efficiently today and sets us up to say yes to new opportunities in the future.”
