QNAP Systems, Inc. have partnered with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), and announced the release of the high-performance TVS-x73 NAS series. With an AMD Embedded R-Series quad-core APU, up to 64GB RAM, AES-NI hardware encryption engine, two M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD slots, SSD cache, USB 3.1 (10Gbps), 10GbE expandability, dual HDMI output, and hardware-assisted 4K video decoding and encoding acceleration, the TVS-x73 series provides small and medium businesses with a perfect NAS solution to build a private cloud for applications including high-speed data transfer, virtualisation, media playback, and graphics display.

Energy efficient NAS solution

"We chose the powerful AMD R-Series APU for the new TVS-x73 series as it incorporates exceptional CPU and AMD Radeon R7 Graphics performance, delivering a high-performance and energy-efficient NAS solution," said Y.T. Lee, Vice President of QNAP, adding "Featuring the latest QTS 4.3 operating system, the TVS-x73's built-in USB 3.1 10Gbps connectivity and the potential for 10GbE expandability are a further boost for performance-conscious organisations and professionals."

"We are pleased to continue our partnership with QNAP in providing high-performance NAS solutions for the Small and Medium Business (SMB) market,"
said Colin Cureton, Director of Product Management & Marketing, Enterprise Solutions Business Unit at AMD. "With its exceptional speed and graphics performance with low power consumption, the AMD Embedded R-Series SOC is the highest-performance AMD embedded processor to date and promises to be a game-changer in the high-end SMB NAS market segment."

Higher bandwidth for virtualisation

"With its exceptional speed and graphics performance with low power consumption, the AMD Embedded R-Series SOC is the highest-performance AMD embedded processor to date"

Built with a state-of-the-art metal design and topped off with a stylish gold finish, the business-class TVS-x73 series is available in 4, 6, and 8-bay models. It is powered by an AMD RX-421BD quad-core APU (2.1 GHz base, 3.4 GHz boost) and dual-channel 8GB/16GB/64GB DDR4 RAM (up to 64GB), supports four Gigabit LAN ports and two built-in M.2 SSD slots (which can benefit from Qtier Technology to optimise storage efficiency across M.2 SSDs, SATA SSDs and HDDs), and is capable of delivering up to 1,172 MB/s throughput. Two PCIe slots are available for greater system flexibility. One is pre-installed with a dual-port USB 3.1 Type-A card and the other allows for an optional QNAP dual-port 10GbE (10GBASE-T or SFP+) network card. The 10GbE-enabled TVS-x73 fully satisfies businesses that demand higher bandwidth for virtualisation and fast backup and restoration for an ever-growing amount of data.

The TVS-x73 series features AMD 3rd Gen GCN architecture with breakthrough GPU performance to support 4K H.264 video decoding and stunning 4K UHD display, ideal for applications for media storage and playback. With dual HDMI output and a bundled remote control, the TVS-x73 provides users with an ideal base for an optimum audio-visual experience.

USB QuickAccess technology

The TVS-x73 series supports QNAP's proprietary USB QuickAccess technology for direct connection to computers via USB, offering great plug-and-use convenience to access files stored on the NAS with up to 100 MB/s throughput. Users can quickly complete the first-time NAS installation and then directly access NAS files in everyday use, enjoying an easy-to-use NAS packed with performance and functionality.

Running on the next-generation 64-bit QTS 4.3 operating system, the TVS-x73 series offers numerous brand-new applications: QmailAgent for centralising multiple e-mail accounts and simplifying daily e-mail management; Qcontactz for centrally storing and managing contacts; Qfiling for automating file organisation; and QButton for initialising simple IoT applications with QNAP apps and the included remote control.

Comprehensive storage solution

The business-ready TVS-x73 is a comprehensive storage solution for data storage, backup, sharing and centralised management, supporting Windows and Mac desktop/laptop backup, Real-Time Remote Replication (RTRR) with backup versioning, rsync and backup to cloud storage as well as file sharing across Windows, Mac and Linux/UNIX. The powerful Qsirch full-text searching tool helps quickly find files on the NAS, and Qsync provides multiple ways for file synchronisation and group file sharing to greatly enhance the flexibility of team projects and collaboration.

Virtualisation Station allows users to host Windows, Linux, UNIX and Android based virtual machines on the NAS; Container Station integrates LXC and Docker lightweight virtualisation technologies. The TVS-x73 series also supports VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 R2 to assist in flexibly deploying and managing virtualisation environments.

The TVS-x73's storage capacity can be scaled up by connecting up to two QNAP expansion enclosures (UX-800P and UX-500P). The storage capacity can also be enlarged by using the VJBOD feature that allows the storage capacity of other QNAP NAS to be used as virtual disks that can be mounted as local disks for shares, applications, or even creating another LUN.
