ComNet, Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, a USA-based manufacturer of fiber optic transmission and networking equipment, is introducing a unique SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) device that can be used in any Ethernet device, and can extends distances over COAX or UTP cables to 3000 ft. The ComNet SFP-CL can be used in any Ethernet device that uses MSA-compliant SFPs for connectivity. Two different models are being announced, a 10Mbps and 100MBPS model. These SFP modules can be connected any ComNet CopperLine® device.

ComNet sees an application where existing COAX or UTP is being utilised for IP transmission. The CL-SFP simplifies installation by eliminating the need for additional Ethernet over Copper media converters by allowing direct connection to an Ethernet Switch.

According to Andrew Acquarulo Jr., ComNet President and COO, “We are seeing a increasing demand coming from the market to utilise existing copper media in IP networks. SFPs have been universally accepted for fiber optic connectivity, giving flexibility in the choice of fiber type, connector type and distance. Our innovative CopperLine® SFP-based Ethernet extender, the CLT-SFP, gives our customers flexibility, reduces complexity and now allows a direct Ethernet over copper connection to any switch.”

“With the extension of our CopperLine® series to now include a distance extending SFP for switches, ComNet continues to set the standard for providing product solutions,” said Skip Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing. “ComNet understands the level of support required to be successful as a company and our goal is to set the standard that all companies should be measured by in terms of innovative product and support,” Haight continued.

ComNet offers an extensive line of fiber optic, copper and wireless video and data transmission equipment that is uniquely designed to meet the needs of the Security and Intelligent Transportation System market.
