Project challenges and objectives
The new terminal at Antalya Airport, known for its high passenger volume and complex retail layout, necessitated the following goals:
- Advanced security: Addressing in-store theft, inventory losses, and maintaining security in high-risk areas.
- Operational efficiency: Streamlining customer flow, reducing congestion, and improving checkout processes in retail spaces.
- Business intelligence: Collecting and analysing customer behaviour data to optimise store layouts and improve sales.
- Centralised management: Efficiently managing over 1,450 cameras and analytical data via a unified Video Management System (VMS).
Deployment of Hanwha Vision systems
Hanwha Vision cameras formed the core of the security setup, chosen for their reliability and superior image quality. Installation included:
- 1,200 QNV-C6083R dome cameras for in-store, corridor, warehouse, and customer tracking.
- 250 QNO-C6083R bullet cameras for exterior monitoring, entrances, exits, and key surveillance locations.
Integrating AI for enhanced outcomes
The collaboration of Hanwha Vision cameras and Genetec’s VMS led to three custom AI analytics solutions tailored to ATÜ’s needs:
- People counting: Monitoring passenger density at various store sections to optimise staff scheduling and working hours.
- Queue management: Employing cameras at checkout points to alert staff about forming queues, thus enhancing service efficiency.
- Heatmap analysis: Visual evaluation of high-engagement store areas, serving as a crucial tool for improving product placement and displays.
Software and data integration
The comprehensive integration of camera and analytics data on the Genetec VMS platform provided ATÜ with features such as:
- Centralised monitoring and recording management.
- Quick access to Hanwha Vision AI data visualisation and reporting within the VMS interface.
- Alert systems for swift incident response.
Impacts and advantages
Implemented at Antalya Airport, the project has significantly improved security and operational standards for ATÜ Duty Free:
- Effective inventory management: High-quality surveillance reduces theft and losses, especially in premium product areas.
- Improved customer satisfaction: Optimised queue management decreases wait times.
- Efficient workforce allocation: Data-driven staff planning ensures optimal service during peak times.
- Maximised sales through store optimisation: Heatmap analytics help identify and enhance popular store zones.
This case exemplifies how Hanwha Vision’s robust camera infrastructure, Arte Teknoloji’s integration expertise, and distributor Entpa Elektronik’s strong project management, led by Eyüp Tetik, transform retail operations by offering both security and insightful business intelligence.
ATÜ Duty Free, Turkey’s pioneering duty-free retailer, aimed to establish a comprehensive security and AI-powered surveillance system in the Antalya Airport new terminal building project to maximise operational efficiency and customer experience.

Project objectives and challenges
The new terminal building at Antalya Airport, with its high passenger traffic and extensive and complex store layout, required the following objectives:
- Advanced security: Prevention of in-store theft, inventory losses, and security breaches in critical areas.
- Operational efficiency: Effective management of customer flow, congestion levels, and checkout processes in the retail area.
- Business intelligence: Collecting data to analyse customer behaviour, optimise in-store layouts, and increase sales.
- Integration and management: Seamless and reliable management of over 1,450 cameras and analytical data through a centralised VMS (Video Management System).
Hanwha Vision’s solution
The backbone of the project consists of Hanwha Vision cameras, chosen for their reliability and high image quality. A total of 1,450 cameras have been deployed at the terminal’s most critical points:
- QNV-C6083R (Dome) – 1200 cameras for in-store areas, corridors, warehouses and customer tracking.
- QNO-C6083R (Bullet) – 250 cameras for exterior facades, entrances/exits, and critical surveillance points.
AI applications: enhancing efficiency and customer experience
Using Hanwha Vision’s camera and Genetec’s VMS integration, three critical AI analytics solutions tailored for ATÜ were implemented:
- People counting: By accurately measuring passenger density in different sections of the store and at the main entrances, working hours and staff distribution were optimised.
- Queue management at checkouts: Cameras installed in checkout areas detect queues forming and send alerts to staff to manage.
- Heatmap: Areas where customers spend the most time within the store are analysed visually. This data has become an indispensable business intelligence tool for optimising product placement (merchandising) and window displays.
Software integration
All camera and analytics data is consolidated on the industry-pioneering Genetec VMS platform. This powerful integration has provided ATÜ with the following capabilities:
- Centralised monitoring and recording management.
- Rapid visualisation and reporting of Hanwha Vision AI data within the VMS interface.
- Establishment of alert mechanisms for immediate response to incidents.
