OneWeb, a communications company focused on providing global internet access, has joined forces with Intellian to develop user terminals tailored for remote enterprise networks, cellular backhaul expansion, and remote connectivity requirements.
This collaboration aims to enhance OneWeb's ability to deliver high-speed, low-latency services via its global satellite constellation.
User Terminals and Applications
The user terminals, which will allow customers access to OneWeb's satellite services, are designed to serve a variety of sectors, including businesses in rural locales, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, agricultural operations, and community centres.
This marks a pivotal development in OneWeb's journey, building on the launch of its initial satellites and the first customer announcements that took place in February 2019.
Technological Advancements
OneWeb is positioned to bolster the advancement of its user terminal lineupCurrently, with six satellites in orbit and numerous antennas deployed, OneWeb is positioned to bolster the advancement of its user terminal lineup.
These terminals will range from compact flat panels to highly efficient dual-parabolic designs, each crafted to meet diverse customer requirements across different industries and applications.
Dual-Parabolic Antennas
The user terminals aim to alleviate the connectivity challenges in areas globally that lack broadband access. By employing dual-parabolic antennas, these terminals will provide cost-effective and efficient bandwidth throughput, thus facilitating high-speed, low-latency communications in even the most remote regions and addressing the pressing need for greater cellular backhaul capacity.
Addressing Customer Needs
"This is an exciting moment for OneWeb as we expand and develop our user terminals with an extremely important partner," stated Adrian Steckel, CEO of OneWeb.
"Our user terminals will always be designed with customer needs in mind, ensuring we deliver a service they can trust. We’re delighted to be partnering with Intellian, and this agreement marks a major step forward in our efforts to bridge the global digital divide."
Design and Manufacturing Capabilities
Echoing this sentiment, Eric Sung, CEO of Intellian, noted, "Intellian is excited to be chosen by OneWeb with its fascinating vision and innovative LEO constellation. We’re thrilled our design and manufacturing capabilities will help connect people in remote locations to this new satellite ecosystem." These user terminals from OneWeb are expected to be commercially available in 2020.
