Observation Without Limits (O.W.L.), a company renowned for producing 2D and 3D radars designed for ground and low-altitude airspace monitoring, has introduced an enhanced version of its GroundAware® GA1360LH radar system. The upgraded GA1360LH, now available, provides detailed target classification that can distinguish between humans, animals, and various vehicles on land and water, ensuring heightened security at crucial locations.
Adam Robinett, CEO of O.W.L., stated, "Our original GA1360 radar was designed to function as the wide-area perimeter intrusion detection sensor that helped meet NERC CIP-014 requirements for transmission substations. The GA1360 quickly became our workhorse ground surveillance radar that serves as the foundation for event-based layered security at all kinds of critical infrastructure sites. Now, our GA1360LH provides longer detection ranges and improved target tracking for automated detection, tracking, deterrence, and response to intrusions within a 1 km radius of critical sites."
Enhanced physical security coverage
Robinett further elaborated that the GA1360LH offers coverage for up to 750 acres or 300 hectares with a single radar, translating to broader monitoring capabilities with fewer sensors. This improvement contributes to a more cost-effective infrastructure, which is particularly valuable amidst expanding physical security demands and budget constraints.
The GA1360LH caters specifically to ground and water environments and is optimally suited for diverse critical locations. These locations include electrical transmission substations, power plants, natural gas compression stations, dams, water reservoirs, water treatment facilities, midstream oil and gas facilities, airports, seaports, rail facilities, mines, large-scale manufacturing plants, data centres, and storage and distribution facilities, as well as campuses with open perimeters.

The GA1360LH incorporates several advanced features designed to enhance security operations. Its digital beamforming radar technology ensures reliable detection and tracking in all weather conditions and for various target types. It boasts extensive detection ranges of over 1 km for vehicles and 600 metres for human targets.
Additional functionalities include seamless integration with ONVIF-compatible cameras and multiple security systems including Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, among others. It also works with access control, physical security information management systems, audible alarms, security lighting, and drone technology. Customisable alarm zones allow for automatic response triggers, offering flexibility in security management.

The radar is built with a solid-state system, featuring no moving parts and comes with a full hardware warranty and software maintenance support.
It operates on a pulsed Doppler processing type within the S frequency band (3.0 GHz – 3.3 GHz), providing a 360-degree azimuth field of view and a 40-degree elevation field of view. The GA1360LH can function efficiently in temperatures ranging from –20 degrees Celsius to +60 degrees Celsius (–4 degrees Fahrenheit to +140 degrees Fahrenheit).
