The market for casino security and surveillance demands software and hardware that provide high-definition, multi-angle visual coverage to ensure the integrity of the games and to protect players, staff, and the public. Like other vertical markets for physical security technology, the casino market is undergoing change and facing challenges. We asked our Expert Panel Roundtable: How are new technologies impacting the casino surveillance and security market?

Gaming establishments, large and small, face unprecedented challenges, including increased competition, staffing, guest safety, and security. Continued advancements in unified security platforms can address these issues and more. AI offers the ability to quickly sift through vast amounts of data to identify specific people, vehicles, or incidents of interest. Specific security analytics, like facial recognition, clothing and vehicle color, or actions within a given time range, can now be identified in seconds. These analytics can be applied on the camera, the server running the video management system (VMS), or in the cloud. They can also be searched or set using common language spoken or typed into unified Video Client. For example, “show all male customers wearing a white jacket at craps tables over the past 3 hours” would return immediate matches, allowing operators to initiate active surveillance or start a forensic investigation.

A fundamental property of any surveillance camera is that it must faithfully report reality. New technologies are eroding that guarantee on two fronts. First, man-in-the-middle attacks can replace a genuine video stream with a manipulated one, rerouting the original cameras to rogue access points while feeding operators fabricated footage that masks non-compliant player behavior. AI-generated video now makes these fakes far harder to detect than manual splicing ever was. Second, distributed denial-of-service attacks no longer require server-class hardware. A large fleet of Internet of Things (IoT) devices — now small enough to conceal in a jacket, battery-powered, and cheap — can flood a network with access requests. No network, no surveillance. Defending against both requires layered network security: Controlling physical access to wired and wireless infrastructure, authenticating every device, explicitly authorising each new device before it joins, and segmenting networks by device family (e.g., IP cameras) and by traffic type (e.g., video).

Casinos depend on delivering seamless guest experiences while maintaining security that keeps pace with high-stakes environments. These properties span gaming floors, back-of-house operations, and often full-scale resorts — relying on access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, alarms, and third-party systems. As these technologies expand, so does data volume and operational complexity, making centralisation critical. Within casinos, surveillance and security teams serve distinct but complementary roles. Security teams oversee video monitoring, gaming floors, and investigations — all while managing physical response, life safety, access control, door alarms, and incidents across the property. Centralised platforms unify these systems by integrating video, access events, alarms, and sensor data into a single platform. In a dynamic industry where seconds matter, technologies that centralise intelligence, simplify workflows, and provide spatially intuitive visibility are redefining what effective casino surveillance and security look like.

The biggest impact of technology is the shift from surveillance as a reactive function to an intelligence-led operation. In a sense, capturing footage has always been the easy part. Casinos have hundreds, often thousands, of cameras doing that. Quickly identifying what matters? That’s been the bigger challenge. Artificial intelligence (AI), video analytics, and notifications can surface unusual activity, identify persons of interest, and flag system health issues such as blurred, obstructed, misaligned, or offline cameras. In real time. This eases the monitoring burden and – certainly in the case of things like automated camera verification – helps maintain usable, compliant coverage. Investigations are becoming faster. Natural-language video search and connected gaming, access control, and incident data can help teams retrieve evidence in cases of cheating, fraud, theft, advantage play, or customer disputes. Crucially, of course, insight must translate into action. Automated workflows and mobile access help teams coordinate their response wherever they are – control room, cash cage, gaming floor, or hospitality areas. Used well, technology enables earlier intervention, strengthening safety, security, and customer experience.
