HiveWatch, a company that specialises in AI-powered physical security solutions, has welcomed James Segil to its board of directors.
Segil's appointment coincides with HiveWatch's recent accomplishments, including a successful $33 million Series B funding round. This round was led by Anthos Capital, with contributions from Harmonic Growth Partners, Across Capital, and existing investors.
Strategic expertise
Bringing a wealth of strategic insight, Segil is known for his innovative impact on the physical security sector by transforming smartphones into security credentials.
His proficiency in enterprise sales, partner ecosystems, and market execution is expected to significantly contribute to HiveWatch’s post-funding expansion.
Segil's professional background
Segil has an extensive history in developing and growing companies in the fields of access control, security
An accomplished entrepreneur and technology executive, Segil has an extensive history in developing and growing companies in the fields of access control, security, and enterprise infrastructure. His recent position was as President and Co-Founder of Openpath Security, a pioneer in next-generation physical access control, which was acquired by Motorola Solutions in 2021.
During his time at Motorola Solutions, Segil managed marketing and inside sales for the Video Security & Access Control division, aiding in the expansion of its global presence and adoption of its products.
Growth and expansion
Previously, Segil founded and successfully led several technology companies, including EdgeCast Networks (acquired by Verizon), KnowledgeBase Solutions (acquired by Talisma), and Virtualis Systems (acquired by Allegiance Telecom).
Commenting on his new role, Segil stated, “Physical security is at an inflection point, and HiveWatch is at the forefront of defining what the modern GSOC should look like. The team has built a platform that solves real-world problems for some of the world’s largest organisations. I’m excited to partner with Ryan, Jordan, and the HiveWatch board as the company accelerates into its next phase of growth.”
Integrating security tools
The platform's central feature is an AI Operator, which learns the user’s specific environment
HiveWatch integrates a variety of previously independent security tools—such as video, access control, alarms, sensors, and threat intelligence—into one cohesive dashboard, enhancing the effectiveness of security programs.
The platform's central feature is an AI Operator, which learns the user’s specific environment, significantly reducing false alarms and speeding up incident responses. The company secures assets worldwide, and it is estimated that 95% of Americans engage with a product, service, or brand protected by HiveWatch technology.
Insight welcomed
HiveWatch's Co-Founder and CEO, Ryan Schonfeld, emphasised the impact of Segil's arrival, stating, "James has built category-defining companies across multiple verticals, and we welcome his valuable insights as we enter our next phase of growth."
