In response to these constraints, borough authorities invested in a modern surveillance system powered by Hanwha Vision cameras and the Wisenet WAVE Video Management System (VMS).

This upgrade utilised a mix of existing coaxial connections, single-mode fiber optic cables, and wireless peer-to-peer links—the latter addressing the challenges posed by trolley lines and high-voltage infrastructure.
With the transition to Hanwha Vision's technology, Media's police officers now access live and archived footage directly from their desktops or mobile devices, allowing real-time coordination during incidents. This capability facilitates immediate suspect identification and enhances communication between detectives and field officers, contributing to a significant increase in the department’s case resolution rates.
The system is indispensable during Media’s numerous public gatherings, such as the “Dining Under the Stars” summer event series and festive parades. McCormick noted, “All the restaurants come out into the streets. So, you can imagine the number of people that come to town for this event.” Centralised monitoring and secure remote access enable the police to maintain public safety and situational awareness without disrupting the town's inviting environment.

Camera equipment was colour-matched to local black light poles, ensuring security measures blend seamlessly into the townscape without appearing intrusive. The goal was to integrate technology seamlessly into the streetscape, providing security without creating a sense of conspicuous surveillance.
This design choice reflects Media’s broader community-oriented approach of being transparent and mindful of residents’ comfort. The system’s presence is subtle, yet residents and business owners appreciate its impact, often asking police if incidents were captured on camera, confident that the system is there to protect them.

Beyond its core role in crime prevention, the Hanwha Vision system has proven invaluable for liability management. When the borough receives claims involving alleged falls or accidents, officials can review video evidence to verify events. Nearly every intersection in the downtown district is covered, enabling the borough to provide factual documentation to insurers, saving both time and taxpayer resources.

“Every technology you can have is in this system,” Burroughs said. “It's all bridged within the Hanwha WAVE platform. The next phase is leveraging the system they have to do something new. That's the beauty of WAVE. It's not just surveillance, it's not just VMS, it's more.”
