APT and Optex provide efficient access control and intruder detector solution for Somerset caravan
APT designed and installed a custom made Executive Barrier System with extensive barrier arms
APT Security Systems has custom built and installed a barrier access system that includes Optex detectors at a Somerset caravan and camping park so the park can accept the larger American tourer, whilst keeping visitors secure from the threat of break ins and burglaries.

Fairways Touring Caravan and Camping Park is a quiet family oriented Caravan Park on the edge of the Polden Hills, Somerset, which has seen an increase in American style tourers in recent years. Standard barriers with an arm length of four metres were not suitable, so APT designed and installed a custom made Executive Barrier System with extensive barrier arms. The system also includes two Optex AX beam detectors which serve to ensure that caravans and towed vehicles are clear of the barrier before the arm falls.

Clive Walker, owner of Fairways says the system has performed impeccably since its installation and the APT engineers' advice was invaluable. "A security solution is vital at any caravan and camping site to protect owners' vehicles and possessions day and night," he says. "Unlike many caravan sites we can accommodate the larger American caravans like Winnebagos and that is thanks to the versatile, bespoke barrier that APT built for us."

The 5.5 acre site has hard standing spaces for up to 200 tourers, all with self trip electric points mounted on top lighted pillars. Clive continues: "Caravans that are towed can have problems where the barrier comes down in between the car and caravan, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage," he says. "The APT solution included using Optex detectors to prevent this happening. It is working very well and despite all manner and size of vehicles coming through, we have not had any problems."

Chris Rowlands, Managing Director of APT Controls says it is APT's industry knowledge and ability to adapt its products to any project that sets itself apart. "There have been a number of installations where the normal specification would not have been suitable," he says. "With a regular dialogue between Clive at the Fairways and our engineers we have been able to provide the right solution, safeguarding the site for all holidaymakers and visitors."

Paul Nicholas, Divisional Manager for Optex Europe says campsites and caravan parks are major users of Optex detectors, and not only for security.

"In scenarios like this at the Fairways, reliability is of course paramount. It is imperative that whatever the weather the beams continue to work every time, so holidaymakers' trips are not ruined at the gate!"
