Kevin Hughes core product is the next generation, solid-state SharpEye™ radar

Kelvin Hughes, a world leader in the design and supply of navigation and surveillance systems, is delighted to announce that it has reached the Finalist stage of the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards 2014 in the Made in Herts category. The winners of all categories will be announced on the 15th May at the Awards Gala Dinner, being held at The Porsche Centre, Hatfield.

Headquartered in Enfield whilst employing over 350 people globally across a network of 12 offices in eight countries, Kelvin Hughes is established as a technology innovator and partner to the world’s navies, military, police, border agencies, merchant shipping, and pleasure craft operators. The company’s core product, introduced in 2008, is the next generation, solid-state SharpEye™ radar for both maritime navigation and land based security applications.

Through its KH Charts subsidiary, the company also supplies nautical charts and data delivery services to over 10,000 maritime customers worldwide

In August 2012, Kelvin Hughes embarked on a £4m investment to implement a custom fit out of its new facility in Enfield, enabling the company to move all of its radar and associated equipment production to a ‘flexible cellular manufacturing’ process. In addition to approximately 10,000m2 of manufacturing space, the site also houses an engineering facility for hardware and software design and development as well as a warehouse which incorporates a Final Acceptance Testing (FAT) operation.

Since moving to Enfield, Kelvin Hughes has launched a number of local projects designed to enhance the skillsets of young people in East Hertfordshire, North London, and Essex. Two of these projects have included the development of a relationship with Hertford Regional College to implement a programme of apprenticeships and a Customer Service training course.

The Inspiring Hertfordshire campaign was launched in 2012 by the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce to focus on and celebrate the expertise, achievements and outstanding contribution that businesses and individuals make. The Made in Herts category, sponsored by Lloyds Bank, was introduced to celebrate manufacturing success within the county.
