Maritime applications now benefit from enhanced flexibility and adaptability of B&R's automation technology, following additional certifications granted to the X20 control and I/O system.
Certification authorities Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Korean Register (KR), Lloyd’s Register (LR), and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) have approved the system, ensuring its suitability for maritime use.
Certifications and Resilience
The demanding conditions at sea necessitate rigorous testing of automation components
The demanding conditions at sea necessitate rigorous testing of automation components. The recent approval by DNV, KR, LR, and ABS indicates the extreme durability of the X20 system.
These certifications highlight its capability to withstand the harsh maritime environment.
Extended Temperature Range
The X20's coated component variants have been specified for wider temperature ranges, allowing their use at temperatures as low as −40°C. This advancement makes the system suitable for cold storage applications and polar region operations.
These coated modules are standard X20 units with specially treated circuit boards for protection against moisture, corrosive gases, and other environmental hazards.
Improved Voltage Range for Maritime Networks
The system's input voltage range has been expanded to tolerate deviations of −25% to +30% around the 24 VDC supply, accommodating voltages from 18 to 31.2 VDC.
This flexibility supports extensive power networks, such as those found on board ships, where long cable runs often result in voltage drops, thereby eliminating the need for additional power supply units.
