IDS GigE PoE daughterboard for modular cameras

IDS Imaging Development Systems has unveiled a new addition to its modular camera collection: a remote GigE PoE board, known as the Daughterboard. This innovation allows for both power supply and data transfer through a single cable, significantly enhancing the usability of motherboard board-level cameras from the GigE uEye LE and uEye SLE series. The motherboards utilise a flexible interface concept, replacing traditional connector blocks with compact flat ribbon connectors which connect to a remote interface electronics unit via a flexible cable.

PoE Daughterboard Advantages

The design of the Daughterboard enables the independent placement of sensors and optics within the camera housing, separate from the power and data connections. This is particularly beneficial for customised or space-constrained product designs. Marcus Rembold, Product Manager at IDS, stated, "With the new PoE daughterboard, we are once again significantly simplifying the use of our smallest single-board cameras. Power supply and data transmission can now be achieved using a single cable with an RJ45 connector – this makes integration more convenient for our customers and opens up additional freedom for individual housing concepts."

The key features of the PoE Daughterboard include a Gigabit Ethernet interface with Power over Ethernet (PoE, IEEE 802.3af), an RJ45 socket for single-cable operation which handles power supply and data transmission, and compatibility with the motherboard variants of the GigE uEye LE Rev. 2 and uEye SLE monitoring cameras. It is designed for space-efficient integration with reduced cabling needs and eliminates the requirement for an additional power supply.
