Teledyne Technologies' subsidiary, Flir, has announced a notable expansion of its firefighting product line at Interschutz 2026, situated in Hall 27, booth M42.
At the forefront of this expansion is the Flir K85-N, distinguished as the first thermal imaging camera to receive comprehensive certification under the recently devised NFPA 1930:2025 standard.
Enhanced thermal imaging technology
The new K85-N model succeeds the widely-used K65, introducing a durable design and significantly improved sensor capabilities. This device, equipped with a 640×480 resolution, boasts a unique single-range architecture designed to retain high-fidelity visibility for firefighters, eliminating common issues such as lag or image quality deterioration when toggling through temperature settings.
Benjamin Mortlock, Team Lead at Flir, emphasised the importance of clarity in critical situations: "In high-stress environments, clarity is the difference between a successful mission and a tragedy. The K85-N is engineered so that crews never miss critical scene information. With its enhanced contrast and dedicated modes for search and detection, we are providing a level of situational awareness that was previously unreachable."

These cameras are enhanced with a revised optical design that, along with a lower f-number, significantly improves visibility in low-contrast settings.
Flir's 2026 K-Series also offers features designed to enhance fleet management efficiencies, including:
- Standardised Ergonomics: Newly designed compact battery and an improved grip tailored around the K85-N’s platform.
- Advanced Connectivity: Integration with the Flir Responder mobile app facilitates wireless streaming, over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, and easy post-incident assessments.
- Rapid Deployment: A newly developed in-truck charger enables swift and reliable use with its ‘insert, twist, lock’ mechanism, beneficial in high-pressure situations.
Consistent safety solutions
Peter Dekkers, Business Development Director at Flir, discussed the objectives behind these advancements: "Our goal for 2026 was standardisation and serviceability. Whether a department is using the NFPA-certified K85-N or the updated K75, the interface, batteries, and charging infrastructure remain consistent. This reduces training friction and keeps the focus where it belongs: on the fireground."
Flir is also preparing to unveil an exclusive, concealed development touted to redefine first-responder safety technology.
