Moxa’s VPort 16-M12’s built-in CCD sensor provides good image quality in low illumination environments
Moxa’s VPort 16-M12 EN 50155-compliant IP cameras were selected as the rear-facing camera in the project

Moxa will provide VPort 16-M12 EN 50155-compliant compact IP cameras for use in on-board IP CCTV applications in Montreal, Canada. The selection criteria for this application included exacting requirements such as high image quality in low illumination environments, EN 50155 and EN 60721-3-1 compliance that includes corrosion protection, and accurate bit rate control mechanisms that can ensure consistent image quality when bandwidth is limited.

Montreal, Canada, one of the largest cities in North America, initiated the MPM-10 (Montréal Pneumatic Material 2010) project in 2006. The project involves a major upgrade of the Montreal Metro subway, with new trains set to go into service in 2014. A total of 52 trains and 468 cars are included in the project. In order to enhance security and safety on moving trains, each train is equipped with both front-facing and rear-facing IP cameras.

Moxa VPort 16-M12 EN 50155-compliant IP cameras were selected as the rear-facing camera in this project. The VPort 16-M12’s built-in CCD sensor provides good image quality in low illumination environments, and the metal housing and glass lens cover are fire and corrosion resistant. In addition, Moxa’s innovative CBR Pro function provides accurate bit rate control to minimise packet loss, ensuring good image quality when bandwidth is limited.

“IP-based CCTV systems are becoming an absolute requirement for railway public safety and passenger security. Effective video surveillance protects passenger safety and makes train operations more efficient, which has led to increased investment in onboard IP CCTV systems. This project reaffirms Moxa’s commitment and expertise in delivering railway onboard CCTV solutions”, explained Martin Jenkner, Business Development Manager at Moxa Europe.
