This means that a dedicated Nedap team will fully focus on assisting retailers to adopt RFID. !D Cloud is used by fashion retailers worldwide to improve their on-shelf merchandise availability and execute a successful omni-channel strategy. Schuurman further states, “We see a lot of traction for RFID-based inventory management in the UK apparel and fashion industry and strongly believe that it is one of the markets in Europe where the RFID-adoption will explode over the next years.”
Nedap announces that digital first activewear brand Outdoor Voices has selected !D Cloud, Nedap’s RFID inventory management platform. One of the key objectives within this deployment is achieving full inventory visibility. This implies that all items, whether located in the distribution centre or in stores, are consolidated into one centralised inventory hub. This allows Outdoor Voices to further unlock omnichannel services, such as ship-from-store, without the need for separate stock in order to fulfill web orders and replenish stores. Providing best-in-class experiences “Outdoor Voices is a revolutionary brand that’s a prime example of fulfilling the omni-channel dream, merging the online and offline experience into one omni-channel”, says Rob Schuurman, President Retail Nedap Inc. “They selected the !D Cloud as a turn-key solution to further enable the omni-channel journey to their customers. One of the key objectives is achieving full and reliable inventory visibility throughout their retail chain to successfully deliver concepts like ship-from-store and BOPIS.” Nate Peterson, Vice President of Supply Chain at Outdoor Voices comments, “For us as a digitally native brand, it’s important that our online experience mirrors that of our shops and this plays an important part in our strategy of activating locally and amplifying digitally. Our job is ensuring that we have the key partners in place who can provide best-in-class experiences for our customers so that regardless of whether or not they purchase online or through our shops, we send them home with the apparel they’ve been looking for.” Managing omnichannel experience The Outdoor Voices team already had experience using RFID and knew the value it brings retail organisations. Kevin Harwood, Vice President of Technology at Outdoor Voices explains, “Nedap enables our store employees to better manage our omnichannel experience, where we can complete inventory counts with 99 percent accuracy and therefore expose our customers to every last unit available within our inventory."Web orders are located and picked from store shelves using Zebra RFID handhelds "This coupled with the seamless integration of our newly implemented NewStore technology will ensure we can serve our customers wherever they are located, online or offline.” As a digital-first company, online orders play a significant part of Outdoor Voices’ business. Order fulfilment therefore is crucial. One of the key results of the pilot project is that the amount of lost sales due to inaccurate stock dropped significantly. Web orders are located and picked from store shelves using Zebra RFID handhelds equipped with the !D Cloud app. Increasing product availability Orders are then shipped from there when they are not available in the distribution centre. In addition, in-store safety stocks can be lowered as full inventory visibility allows for efficient replenishment. Besides the benefits to their omnichannel journey, the use of RFID allows for increased product availability and improved on-shelf availability that has ultimately transpired in a lift for Outdoor Voices. Hilbert Dijkstra, Director of Business Development for !D Cloud Americas says, “Full inventory visibility paves the way to unmatched omnichannel services, allowing Outdoor Voices to continue their journey of building the No. 1 digital activewear brand. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with this young and ambitious retailer, enabling them to do what they do best: grow their community and serve them in the best possible way. Wherever, on whichever social platform, and whenever they decide to buy”. Learn first-hand how Outdoor Voices successfully implemented RFID and how this enables them to unlock omnichannel during Nedap’s Retail Round Table Event in New York City. Date: November 5, 2019. Nedap, a global provider of RFID-based retail solutions, launches the RFID Loss Prevention Academy. This is an online learning environment, which consist of free online courses, study guides and tests. This will help retail executives to develop critical skills, test knowledge, and demonstrate expertise in the area of RFID-based loss prevention. Rob Schuurman, Managing Director of Nedap Retail comments, “Reduction in inventory due to shoplifting, employee theft, or other errors, significantly impacts a retailer’s bottom line – to the tune of nearly $100 billion annually in direct losses worldwide. Regardless of where retail operations are located, shrink is a universal foe. Nowadays, RFID is the technology that enables retailers to prevent losses." RFID inventory-visibility technologies "With this e-learning, we as Nedap are sharing our expertise in the field of RFID-technology. This will help retailers to gain more understanding in the area of RFID-based EAS, enabling them to reduce the impact of losses affecting the retail industry.” With this e-learning, we as Nedap are sharing our expertise in the field of RFID-technology" RFID-based EAS technology creates a real-time understanding of what, when and how specific items go missing by integrating item-level inventory and loss prevention data. This new insight leverages EAS and RFID inventory-visibility technologies to provide a complete pictures of loss events to help take loss prevention efforts to the next level. Alarm Notification App Track and manage retail shrinkage from all source to store, in real time Facilitate secured & seamless checkouts Creating Unique Shopper Experiences with open entrances Differentiate between actual store shrink and other forms of inventory distortion Pinpoint shrink sources, in the store and all along the retail supply chain Ability to respond directly to alarms using an Alarm Notification App Analysis of system data, which predicts potential shrinkage Closing the gap between loss prevention and inventory management Future-proof loss prevention system More and more retailers and brands are choosing RFID to gain insight into their inventory at item level. This ensures optimal product availability. The foundation of most RFID implementations is that all items are provided with an RFID label at the source of production. The same RFID label is used for inventory management and item security. This means that no additional loss prevention is needed, as stock is already 100% security tagged from source. This eliminates additional in-store tagging costs and in the same time, it enables retailers to unlock omnichannel services such as secured mobile checkout. RFID for loss prevention is also available as a stand-alone option. This provides retailers with a future-proof loss prevention system if they prefer to implement RFID for inventory management at a later stage.
Nedap announces that the patent application is pending in over 120 countries for !D Cloud’s latest functionality: Virtual Shielding. This smart allocation technology in the Nedap !D Cloud software platform, allows store staff to easily read RFID tags by using RFID handheld devices and automatically determine the actual (sub) location within a store of RFID tags in an accurate way. This solves the problem of reading RFID tags through walls. The industry has long denied the feasibility of reliably determining individual tag locations without physical shielding however, Nedap has cracked the code on this. Successfully implemented technology Rob Schuurman, Managing Director Nedap Retail, comments, “Our main competitive edge is that we are more than willing to invest in Research & Development. We are convinced by doing so we add more value to our solutions and help our customers to become more successful in their business. Last year alone we spent over 25 million Euros at Nedap in R&D, resulting in many new technological breakthroughs." "One of them is Virtual Shielding. In our view, this is another breakthrough to make it easier and more cost-effective for retailers to deploy RFID. We are proud to say that our first customers have already saving significant amounts of money.” Financially feasible for retailers RFID also has its challenges when it comes to determining the correct (sub-)location of a stock items in the store RFID is a proven technology to raise the stock accuracy and quickly get insights on the available stock-items in a retail store. However, RFID also has its challenges when it comes to determining the correct (sub-)location of a stock items in the store. That means that retailers need to apply physical shielding like aluminum foil or metallic paint to prevent ‘leakage’ and to ensure reliable insights regarding what stock is available on the sales floor and which stock-items are available in the stockroom. Virtual Shielding eliminates the need for physical shielding and allows for faster RFID roll-outs across the globe. The patent-pending Virtual Shielding technology developed by Nedap lowers the RFID deployment and investment costs. This significantly increases the ROI of RFID-projects and making RFID financially feasible for more retailers. Virtual Shielding has been officially launched during the NRF trade show in the US, which was held on January 13-15.
