ZeroEyes has joined forces with Ohio's Heath City School District to enhance security measures within the district by implementing its AI-driven gun detection and situational awareness platform. With a reach that spans four institutions, Heath City Schools caters to around 1,600 students and 250 staff members, aiming to improve safety against gun-related threats.
Situated in Licking County, the district's adoption of ZeroEyes integrates with a comprehensive security strategy, which includes a network of cameras, access controls, bullet-resistant window film, and door barricades.
Multilayered security approach
Trevor Thomas, Ed.D., superintendent of the Heath City School District, emphasized the importance of safety by stating, “Student and staff safety is always our top priority, so we are very interested in solutions that can provide real-time notifications in the event of a potential threat.” He further praised ZeroEyes for enhancing existing safety measures with timely and actionable intelligence, ultimately contributing to improved protection and community assurance.

The ZeroEyes system functions by overlaying its AI threat detection software onto existing security cameras. Upon identifying a firearm, images are rapidly relayed to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC). This centre is unique for being fully based in the U.S. and is operated continuously throughout the year by veterans from the U.S. military and law enforcement.

In the event that a threat is verified by these experts, pertinent alerts and intelligence—comprising visual details, type of firearm, and last known location—are dispatched swiftly to both law enforcement and school personnel. This process frequently occurs within seconds of a gun being detected.
Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes, expressed pride in collaborating with proactive districts such as Heath City. He stated, “We’re proud to partner with forward-thinking districts like Heath City that are committed to implementing layered security strategies.” Lahiff noted that the integration of ZeroEyes' real-time gun detection into the district's existing systems is pivotal in establishing a safer school environment.
