ISS (Intelligent Security Systems), a global provider renowned for its video intelligence and data solutions, has recently announced a major technology implementation for Arteris Litoral Sul, a prominent highway operator in Brazil.
This project involves the utilisation of the SecurOS® platform to bolster safety and efficiency along the BR-101 highway, a key logistics corridor linking Itapema and Balneário Camboriú in Santa Catarina.
Deployment of intelligent security technology
Arteris Litoral Sul, which holds the concession for managing this busy section, aimed to modernise its infrastructure specifically concerning the transportation of hazardous materials. To adhere to regulatory standards and enhance commuter safety, ISS technology has been utilised to automate the monitoring of dangerous cargo and expedite responses to incidents.
The project incorporates the SecurOS® Auto Hazardous Cargo module featuring advanced licence plate recognition and placard decoding to identify vehicles transporting hazardous goods in real-time. This system functions efficiently even at high speeds and during adverse weather, enabling accurate tracking and alert generation. In addition, the deployment includes Automatic Incident Detection (AID) capabilities to continuously monitor camera feeds for stationary vehicles, wrong-way drivers, and other potential road hazards.
Enhancing road safety and reducing environmental risks
The system automates detection and sends accurate alerts to the Arteris Operational Control & Security CentreSérgio Viana, Automation Manager at Arteris, stated, "The implementation of the Auto Hazardous Cargo module of the SecurOS® platform reflects the Arteris Group’s commitment to its users, to road safety, and to reducing environmental impact by using technology as a fundamental operational pillar."
The deployment equips the operations team with a holistic view of traffic along the highway, alleviating the need for constant human oversight and allowing personnel to concentrate on strategic management and decision-making.
System functionality and efficiency
The system automates detection processes, swiftly sending accurate location data and incident details to the Arteris Operational Control and Security Centre. This rapid communication significantly minimises response times from emergency services, thereby directly enhancing roadway safety.
