Automatic Systems' BL 77 and BL 52 are installed along the various roads, inside the tunnels as well as at the entrance of tunnels
BL 52 and BL 77 barriers are integrated within the traffic control and security systems deployed in the region and nationwide

Automatic Systems, a world leader in the automation of secure entrance control, announces that it has supplied barriers for traffic management to the Norra länken motorway project in Sweden, through its local partner Swarco.

Built in cooperation with the city of Stockholm and co-financed by the European Union, Norra länken stretches between Tomteboda and Värtan connecting to the E4 at Frescati and Värtan. The total project is 5 km long in total, of which 4 km in tunnels, making it northern Europe’s largest road tunnel project.

Automatic Systems' barriers, 27 BL 52 and 8 BL 77, are integrated within the sophisticated traffic control and security systems deployed in the region and nationwide. The BL 77 and BL 52 types are installed along the various roads, inside the tunnels as well as at the entrance of tunnels.

While the full project will be completed by 2019, the section between Norrtull - Frescati - Värtan was officially opened to traffic on November 30th, 2014. With the construction of Norra länken, Stockholm hopes to solve congestion problems and create new opportunities within its region by building the new city districts of Hagastaden and Norra Djurgårdsstaden.

"Norra länken is a challenging project with very complex technical requirements. Automatic Systems was selected for the reliability, quality and proven performance of its equipment. Our renowned expertise and reputation are based on over 45 years' experience and more than 100.000 barriers worldwide. I'm very proud to be part of this project", Wim Teurlinckx – Sales Manager Automatic Systems' Northern Countries.

The barriers at Norra Lanken

BL 77

The BL 77 is a security barrier specifically designed for the physical closure of large roads, tunnels and highways. Its extra-long fibre glass arm, up to 14m – with bracing wire, can resist to wind and other harsh weather conditions. Its visibility is reinforced by high-luminosity LEDs and reflective strips to ensure strong visual impact. The BL 77 is a barrier with a very robust mechanism for maximum endurance and availability. The BL 77 barriers are available with a pivoting base for maintenance and users protection.

BL 52

The BL 52 is an extra-long barrier able to close very large passages (up to 14m). Suitable for very intensive use, this very robust barrier can assimilate major vehicle flows. The aluminium arm is capable of supporting accessories such as folding skirts and signposting elements. Like the BL 77, the BL 52 is also available with a pivoting base. At Norra länken, the BL 52 was tailored to meet the client's technical specifications. Its arm width is 8m and the opening speed is less than 7 seconds.
