ACT365 removes the need for extensive PC equipment on site allowing remote control to Secured Alarm Systems Secured Alarm Systems has installed ACT’s cloud-based access control system, ACT365, at the new UK base of Dr Organic, a natural skincare and beauty product company. Dr Organic created a production, design and distribution centre within the 18-acre Swansea Enterprise Park to consolidate its operations in Europe. Remote access solution ACT365 gives users simple but powerful management of access points both locally and remotely. It allows the operator to analyse door status and activate doors from any major web browser or ACT's own App. ACT365 also unifies VMS with access control, enabling users to control cameras from the same platform. The software is allowing Dr Organic to make immediate remote adjustments to a user's privileges including disabling a card after any breach of access protocol even if it is an innocent error. A common occurrence might be a contractor forgetting to hand in their card or fob after finishing an assignment. Rapid installation Secured Alarm Systems worked with the client's IT consultant, SA1 Solutions, to exploit existing Cat6 infrastructure and assign IP addresses to the ACT hardware. Dr Organic is using ACTpro 1040e 125kHz proximity readers and also opted for another recent innovation, ACTpro 1520e single-door controllers. Matthew Giffard, managing director of Secured Alarm Systems, said, "The installation at Dr Organic was rapid and hassle-free. An outstanding feature of ACT365 is that if the client reports a fault on their access control system we've got the ability to assess the situation via the Cloud from our own office and make modifications without necessarily visiting site. This enhances our offering to clients and of course end-users also appreciate the remote visibility of their premises." "ACT365 is showing exceptional functionality in terms of ability to programme user time zones and door groups" Matthew continued, "ACT365 is showing exceptional functionality in terms of ability to programme user time zones and door groups. The responsiveness of the system was illustrated recently when a Dr Organic member of staff had a highly unusual but legitimate access control request involving external doors. We were able to adjust the privileges on their fob from our office promptly and with no disruption to the system." Compact unit operations ACT365 removes the need for extensive PC equipment on site. It operates from a compact unit involving minimal capital cost and is provided to installers by ACT and its distribution partners on an 'as-a-service' model. Clients are able to focus on their core operations without being potentially distracted by technical concerns such as firewalls, router settings, patches and firmware upgrades. By minimising both miles driven during installer site visits and fossil fuel usage in manufacture of unnecessary components, ACT365 is environmentally friendly. This is particularly appropriate for a client such as Dr Organic who employ organic ingredients wherever possible and avoid petro-chemicals such as paraffin and petroleum in their products. Dr Organic exports to the US and to do this it must meet strict regulations from the United States Department of Homeland Security. The ACT system is contributing to this compliance.
ACT door controllers, door stations and proximity fobs are being used at Urban Village development Secured Alarm Systems are installing access control equipment from ACT at a £25m regeneration project in Swansea, Wales. The integrator is using ACT door controllers, door stations and proximity fobs at the Urban Village development, an ongoing project that has already transformed the High Street and Strand area of Swansea with a set of mixed-use commercial and residential buildings. The landlord is Coastal Housing Group who has completed a first phase involving 76 flats for social rent and five floors of office and retail space. ACT products have been used across the whole complex including door automation systems at the residential accommodation so that elderly tenants or wheelchair-users can open doors automatically from distance with their fobs. The controllers are the ACTpro 4000 model which can extend to a total of 16 doors when combined with ACT door stations. The client is using these with proximity (125 kHz) ACTProx fobs. Site accommodates Coastal Housing Group’s technical & administrative staff Companies in the commercial areas at Urban Village include the city’s newspaper, the ‘South Wales Evening Post’, and the site also accommodates over a hundred of Coastal Housing Group’s technical and administrative staff. A second office block will provide a ‘Creative Cluster’ for media-based activity that will include a venue for the performing arts. Civil contractors R&M Williams and Holder Mathias Architects are responding to various challenges including the refurbishment of a 125-year-old warehouse. Every ACT controller allows for individually-tailored access levels which mean the installer has been able to implement a solution with a hierarchy of access rights for residential tenants and commercial users according to their profile. ACT products are being used site-wide including the interior of commercial offices and in underground car parks where drivers are issued with ACT 433TXprox long-range transmitters which can operate over distances up to 50 meters and are integrated with the site’s gate and barrier control. "A notable feature of these installations is that we are installing the ACT components in the different buildings on the site and then reaching out to the management software using the network controllers" Software allows programme fobs Matthew Giffard, Managing Director of Secured Alarm Systems, said: "A notable feature of these installations is that we are installing the ACT components in the different buildings on the site and then reaching out to the management software using the network controllers. The software is allowing us to programme fobs with a sophisticated hierarchy of user-specific rights access and check on usage history with automated reporting.” He continued: “The ACT products are not just user-friendly they are installer-friendly to a remarkable degree. Facility managers at Coastal Housing Group are proactive in the way they exploit the capabilities of the system and the scope it offers for programming door groups. To date we have had a zero return rate on the ACT products.” Swansea-based Secured Alarm Systems operate in disciplines including access control, CCTV and fire protection. The company works for several social housing associations and is also active in the civil infrastructure, retail and student accommodation sectors. The engineering team covers the whole of the south-west of the UK. Secured Alarm Systems are a member of the National Security Inspectorate and staff is fully trained in the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. Regeneration of older stock & building new houses Coastal Housing Group is a not-for-profit industrial and provident society operating in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, and Carmarthenshire. A principal objective is regeneration of older stock and building new houses to improve the local community and provide good-quality affordable homes.
