Detection Technology has announced the introduction of the X-Panel 4386a FPI, a significant addition to its X-Panel XL series of large-area thin-film transistor (TFT) flat panel detectors.
This latest model enhances the product range with a 430 x 860 mm active area, providing industry-pioneer speed for high-speed industrial computed tomography (CT) imaging tasks. Building on the success of the X-Panel XL platform, the new detector meets the increasing demands for high-throughput inspections in industrial imaging.
Advancements in industrial imaging
With origins in the X-Panel 43108 variants, the X-Panel XL series was developed in response to the rising need for efficient inspection of substantial objects.
The newly launched X-Panel 4386a FPI offers a robust solution, incorporating a 430 x 860 mm active area suitable for challenging dynamic imaging applications. According to Tuomas Holma, Product Director at Detection Technology, "The launch of the X-Panel 4386 as a successor to the X-Panel 43108 demonstrates our commitment to continuously expanding the capabilities of the X-Panel XL series."
Enhanced system design flexibility
The X-Panel 4386a FPI incorporates a dual-side readout architecture
The X-Panel 4386a FPI incorporates a dual-side readout architecture, allowing frame rates up to 15 frames per second (fps) in full-resolution mode, which increases to 45 fps and 90 fps in 3x3 and 6x6 binning modes, respectively. This capability positions the detector as over five times faster than several existing large-area detectors available. The advancements in speed and flexibility are expected to facilitate the design of improved industrial imaging systems.
Designed with a-Si TFT technology and a 140 µm pixel size, the X-Panel 4386a FPI comprises a pixel matrix of 3072 x 6144. It supports 10G BASE-T connectivity, ensuring efficient high-speed data transfers, and is particularly suited to high-energy X-ray tube imaging scenarios with scintillator choices including DRZ-Plus and Cesium Iodide (CsI). The detector's design caters to a diverse array of large-area imaging needs, including industrial CT, digital radiography (DR) systems, automotive and aerospace inspections, heavy casting assessments, and defence and conveyor-based manufacturing inspections.
Optimised for industrial needs
The single-glass X-Panel XL series offers functional advantages over traditional large-area dynamic detectors. Its extensive active area reduces the necessity for multiple scans, enhances productivity, and diminishes the risk of stitching artifacts.
Featuring a high frame rate, the series supports quicker CT acquisition, reducing inspection durations and boosting system throughput. Additionally, the series is compact, facilitating versatile cabinet X-ray and system designs safely and efficiently in industrial settings.
Global availability and support
Detection Technology's X-Panel XL series, which complies with relevant international EMC, safety, environmental, and industry standards, is available with EU-origin and China-origin manufacturing options to serve a worldwide customer base.
Demo units and technical support are on offer for application testing and system integration. Deliveries of the X-Panel 43108 have commenced, and deliveries for the X-Panel 4386 are scheduled to start by the end of 2026. The company will display the X-Panel XL series and other products at the European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing (ECNDT) 2026.
Detection Technology, a global pioneer in X-ray detector solutions, announces the launch of the X-Panel 4386a FPI, the latest addition to its X-Panel XL series of large-area thin-film transistor (TFT) flat panel detectors. Building on the strong market response to the single-glass X-Panel XL platform, the new detector extends the product family with industry-leading speed and an optimized large-area form factor featuring a 430 × 860 mm active area for high-speed industrial computed tomography (CT) imaging applications.
The X-Panel XL series, originally launched with X-Panel 43108 variants, addresses the growing demand for high-throughput inspection of large objects in industrial imaging. Developed in close collaboration with customers, the X-Panel 4386a FPI expands the product family with a 430 x 860 mm active area detector for demanding dynamic imaging applications.
