Cassidian is constantly enhancing its unmanned aerial systems
The product portfolio includes mission equipment for HALE systems and MALE systems such as HERON-1 system

Cassidian will present unmanned aerial systems (UAS) of all sizes and for a diverse range of tasks at the DWT Unmanned Vehicles Forum, to be held at the Stadthalle Bonn/Bad Godesberg on 28 and 29 May 2013.

"Already, the product offerings in the field of unmanned aerial systems can not only execute a broad spectrum of tasks in the military sector - civil use is conceivable as well,” explains Bertram Gorlo, Sales Director Germany at Cassidian. “One key development step still outstanding here is certification for flight in controlled airspace.”

Analogous to the high demand in the military sector, Gorlo is expecting demand to develop dramatically in the civil sector too. What UASs can do in the military sector in terms of reconnaissance and information-gathering can also benefit police forces or private enterprises tomorrow in such tasks as border surveillance, catching environmental polluters, monitoring large events or in industrial plants.

real-time computer
structures and leading-edge
programming

Cassidian is constantly enhancing its unmanned aerial systems. Real-time computer structures and leading-edge programming enable safe, reliable remote control of UASs. Sophisticated IT development makes possible data processing and transmission that ensure secure data links and high-quality evaluations. Additionally, Cassidian engineers are working constantly to optimise the weight of all components and develop new technologies, such as structure-integrated antennas. Thus, Cassidian is advancing the technology in order to make UASs even more efficient.

As a part of this, Cassidian is in the process of describing the prerequisites and defining the standards that will permit unmanned aerial systems to fly safely through controlled airspace.

The product portfolio here includes mission equipment (SIGINT) for high altitude long endurance (HALE) systems, medium altitude long endurance (MALE) systems such as the HERON-1 system for the Bundeswehr (for which Cassidian offers operator solutions in conjunction with IAI), studies for a Future European Male (FEMALE) system, tactical mini-UASs such as SCOUT and TU-150 through Cassidian Airborne Solutions, a joint venture with Rheinmetall, and even the unmanned mini-helicopter TANAN.
