Axis gives to Asian Foundation of Philanthropy
Axis Security presents Asian charity with £1,000 cheque
In keeping with its pledge to donate a proportion of turnover to charity each year, Axis Security, one of London and the City's fastest growing security service providers, has presented a £1,000 cheque to the Asian Foundation of Philanthropy.

Axis has committed to support two charities each year: one chosen by its commercial partners and clients in a draw at its annual Christmas luncheon; and the other by the Axis Security Management team.

The ‘team' choice for 2008 was The City of London Crime Prevention Association, which encourages cooperation in developing crime prevention measures and supports many charitable organisations such as Child Victims of Crime. The ‘guest' charity was chosen by Vijay Thakrar of Ernst and Young. Vijay is a long time supporter of the Asian Foundation for Philanthropy (AFP) and strongly believes in its ethos of inspiring social change.

Thanking Axis for its donation, Bala Thakrar, Director of AFP said: "AFP has been working with the most marginalised communities for the past few years now, and has managed to empower and improve the life opportunities for tens of thousands of people within India. This would not be possible without the support of our well-wishers and donors such as Axis Security.

Axis's contribution will directly go to support our mental health work with 70 villages in Karnataka on the Siddalghatta project. Mental health is a huge concern for the population in India, and this donation will enable them to receive the right medicine and assimilate them into society. The donation will also support awareness-raising activities, which are crucial in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health in India."

"AFP has been working with the most marginalised communities for the past few years now, and has managed to empower and improve the life opportunities for tens of thousands of people within India. This would not be possible without the support of our well-wishers and donors such as Axis Security," said Bala Thakrar, Director of AFP

Jonathan Levine, Managing Director of Axis Security added: "We made a number of worthwhile charitable donations over the course of 2008 and are pleased to give our partners a say in where donations are placed. We were delighted with Vijay's choice and for bringing AFP's worthy work to our attention. We can only hope that the donation goes someway to help them continue their invaluable work to improve the social and economic development in India."

APF is a UK-based charity which uses its network of partner organisations in India to help British Asians Diaspora who want to make a difference to social and economic development through volunteering. AFP identifies projects and organisations, which seek to empower local communities in India and encourage them to see creative solutions that will be sustainable and contribute to development over the long term.
