NAKIVO has launched version 11.1 of its Backup & Replication software, introducing new features aimed at enhancing disaster resilience with minimal downtime and data loss. This update includes support for additional languages and improved functionality for managing multi-tenant environments.

New Multilingual Support

The latest iteration of NAKIVO Backup & Replication now supports five new languages: French, Italian, German, Polish, and Chinese, expanding its accessibility beyond the existing support for English and Spanish. This multilingual capability enables users to conduct backup tasks, disaster recovery automation, resource monitoring, and data restoration in their preferred language.

Enhanced Proxmox VE Integration

Version 11.1 builds upon the initial Proxmox VE support introduced in the previous iteration. New features include Flash VM Boot for immediate operational restoration, VM Replication for ensuring high availability, and VM Template backup for efficient VM deployment. Additional enhancements encompass automated backup verification and direct tape device recovery, thereby eliminating the need for staging repositories. The update also offers log truncation for Exchange and SQL servers to optimise log file storage.

Streamlined MSP Direct Connect

The upgrade introduces MSP Direct Connect, which removes the necessity for open ports on tenant systems, simplifying the network configuration requirements for managed service providers (MSPs). This secure connectivity framework ensures encrypted communication between the MSP Director and Client Transporter. Moreover, v11.1 extends Direct Connect support to Hyper-V and Proxmox VE, in addition to VMware and Windows/Linux environments, promoting seamless service integration.

Real-Time VMware Replication

Now officially launched, the Real-Time Replication feature allows for the creation and continuous updating of VMware VM replicas. This functionality simplifies deployment by automating the setup of the IO Filter and Journal Service, ensuring zero data loss and seamless service continuity through automated failover capabilities. Data integrity is preserved with encryption during transmission over unsecured networks.

Granular Backup Options

The update also introduces granular backup features for physical machines, allowing users to back up specific folders and volumes on Windows and Linux systems. These targeted backups can be stored in a variety of locations, including cloud and tape, and can incorporate advanced security measures like air-gapping and encryption. Recovery options are flexible, supporting download to browsers or recovery to SMB/NFS shares.

Strengthened Data Management and Protection

Bruce Talley, CEO of NAKIVO, stated, “This release turns NAKIVO Backup & Replication into a core asset for businesses aiming to navigate the complexities of data protection and management.” Talley highlighted the software's streamlined MSP direct connect and automated failover processes as pivotal advancements, asserting that v11.1 extends their 13 years of innovation in backup and disaster recovery.

NAKIVO, a pioneering provider of backup, ransomware protection, and disaster recovery for virtual, physical, cloud, NAS, and SaaS environments, announces the release of NAKIVO Backup & Replication v11.1.

The new version introduces a powerful set of features and enhancements designed to deliver disaster resilience with near-zero downtime and data loss across diverse IT environments—all while simplifying accessibility and MSP-tenant management.

Multilingual interface: 5 new languages

Clients can run backup jobs, automate disaster recovery, monitor virtual resources or simply restore data

The latest 11.1 release of NAKIVO Backup & Replication now fully supports French, Italian, German, Polish, and Chinese alongside English and Spanish.

Customers can run backup jobs, automate disaster recovery, monitor virtual resources or simply restore data in the language they prefer.

Expanded backup capabilities for Proxmox VE

Building on its initial support for Proxmox VE in version 11, NAKIVO has delivered major functional enhancements in this 11.1 release. Businesses can now leverage true disaster resilience for their Proxmox VE environments—all without costly overhauls. This latest update introduces a suite of powerful features, including:

  • Instant recovery with Flash VM Boot for businesses to restore operations within seconds.
  • VM Replication for high availability and rapid failover during outages or corruption.
  • VM Template backup and recovery for fast, consistent deployment of pre-configured VMs.
  • Automated backup verification with reports and test-recovery screenshots to ensure recoverability.
  • Direct recovery of backups stored on tape devices without the need for a staging repository.
  • Log Truncation for Exchange and SQL Servers for efficient storage of log files.

MSP Direct Connect

Traditional connections between MSP infrastructure and client sites often require open ports on the tenant’s side. The enhanced MSP Direct Connect eliminates the need for open ports on the client’s side.

This introduces a tailored MSP-tenant connection framework where MSPs can streamline deployment and tenant onboarding with no complex network configurations needed.

All communication between the MSP Director and Client Transporter is encrypted, ensuring compliance with strict internal and external security standards. v11.1 also extends Direct Connect’s support to include Hyper-V and Proxmox VE alongside VMware and Windows/Linux physical machines to enable seamless service delivery across diverse environments.

Real-time replication for VMware

Real-Time Replication functionality enables clients to create replicas of VMware VMs and keep updated

Now out of beta and fully released, the Real-Time Replication functionality enables customers to create replicas of VMware VMs and keep them updated with the source VM as changes are made in real time.

Setting up real-time replication is now simpler, as the solution automatically deploys the IO Filter and Journal Service, eliminating the need for manual setups and saving valuable time.

Zero data loss and zero human intervention

Additionally, customers can add a real-time replication failover action directly to the Site Recovery workflow to automate the failover process to the real-time VM replicas. Whenever needed, they can launch the Site Recovery job, which triggers an automatic failover to the real-time replicas.

VM replicas can take over before anyone notices—ensuring zero data loss and zero human intervention, while maintaining “always-on” service availability. For added security, replicated data transmitted over unsecured WAN connections is encrypted to prevent interception or unauthorised access.

Granular backup for physical machines

This new capability allows customers to select specific folders within a machine to back up. With v11.1, they can back up specific folders and volumes in addition to full physical Windows and Linux machines.

Granular backups can be stored anywhere: local, cloud, deduplication devices, file shares

Granular backups can be stored anywhere: local, cloud, deduplication appliances, file shares, and even tape with immutability, encryption, air-gapping, and other cybersecurity features supported.

They can recover those backups to SMB/NFS shares, send via email, or download directly to a browser. This means that if something goes wrong, they can just restore that folder or volume without any extra hassle.

Advancing resilience and accessibility

“This release turns NAKIVO Backup & Replication into a core asset for businesses aiming to navigate the complexities of data protection and management,” said Bruce Talley, CEO of NAKIVO.

“With an interface supporting 7 languages, streamlined MSP direct connect, and seamless recovery and failover automation, v11.1 puts easily-accessible data protection within immediate reach—no matter the environment. v11.1 truly builds on our 13 years of backup and disaster recovery innovations.”

Feature availability

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v11.1 is available for download. Customers can either update their version of the solution or install the 15-day Free Trial to check how the new features work.
