Allied Universal has announced that Michael Matz, the branch manager of its Long Island, New York office, has been honoured with the Patriot Award.
This recognition comes from the Office of the Secretary of Defense – Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The award highlights Matz's exceptional leadership and support for military reserve employees.
Recognition
Matz's commendation was due to his steadfast commitment to supporting employees in the military reserves. The award was nominated by Thomas Mahoney, an Allied Universal client portfolio manager and a reserve service member.
While deployed to the U.S./Mexico border over the 2026 holiday season, Mahoney noted Matz's consistent communication with his family and his efforts to ensure they received the necessary support during his absence.

"I am honoured to receive ESGR's Patriot Award. Taking care of our employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve is something that I take great pride in," stated Matz. "When team members are called to serve our country, their families make great sacrifices. We want to help ensure that these families are given the support they deserve."
Experience
Thomas Mahoney has dedicated 24 years to the U.S. National Guard and Reserve, currently serving as a machinery technician chief at Base Cape Cod.
His extensive career spans 10 deployments, including assignments in Kuwait and participation in rescue missions for both Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti earthquake.

"I was compelled to nominate Michael for the exceptional support he provided my family, as well as his dedication to the entire Long Island branch team," expressed Mahoney. "I am incredibly grateful for the consistent communication he maintained with my family, ensuring they were doing well while I was away from my wife and children. Mike exemplifies true leadership through his dedication to his employees, especially those serving in the military reserves."
The award was presented to Matz by Joseph Kruk, CMSgt, USAF (Ret.), who volunteers with ESGR in New York.
