Moxa, a provider of hardened networking, communication and computing solutions, recently announced the new ISD-1000 Series of data line surge protectors engineered to guard data and hardware from harmful transient energies resulting from the "switching" of nearby equipment.

"We've been hearing from the market that surges continue to disrupt plant operations," said Paul Wacker, Product Marketing Manager for Moxa. "Responding to market demand, we've introduced our latest data line surge protectors to ensure reliable communications and to protect attached equipment."

All four ISD-1000 models feature line-to-line and line-to-ground protection, and are rated for -40° C to 85° C (-40° F to 185° F) temperatures:

  • The ISD-1110-T (RS-232) and ISD-1130-T (RS-422/485) are in-line surge protectors, designed for general purpose use. Both models provide 4 kV of surge protection, and are certified to IEC 61000-4-5 Level 4 standard.
  • The ISD-1210-T (RS-232) and ISD-1230-T are DIN-rail or panel mount models, designed for industrial use. Both models provide 20 kV of surge protection, and are certified to the demanding IEC 61643-21 C2 standard.

To introduce customers to the ISD-1000 series, Moxa has posted a new demonstration video that shows the surge protector safeguarding a USB-to-serial device from a 4 kV surge. Watch the video here.
