Columbia County Schools will receive Video Insight VMS licenses and 16 IP video surveillance cameras

Video Insight, a leading developer of enterprise IP video surveillance software has awarded the School Security In-Kind Grant to Columbia County Schools of Lake City, Florida. Columbia County Schools is the seventh education organisation to win a $20,000 security system in the year-long $250,000 School Security In-Kind Grant Program.

As the Video Insight School Security In-Kind Grant recipient, Columbia County Schools will receive Video Insight Video Management Software (VMS) licenses; 16 IP video surveillance cameras; 1 video encoder that includes VMS software licenses; 10 years of software upgrades; one year of a customer assurance program; and product training.

Located in rural Lake City, Florida, Columbia County Schools has 10,000 students and 13 campuses. More than 75 percent of the Columbia County Schools student population qualifies for the federal free lunch program, meaning it has a large number of socio-economically disadvantaged students.

“The county is economically depressed, educationally disadvantaged, and struggles with poverty, illiteracy, and high rates of crime that far exceed the state and national averages,” said Columbia County Schools Representative Judy Tatem.

The school district has a plethora of problems from fighting and bullying incidents to school break-ins that are “impossible” to monitor due to antiquated systems that are very rarely up and running.

“Only thirty percent of these cameras are working at the present time. Therefore the current security systems can never be depended upon to provide any verifying information,” said Tatem.

“Columbia County Schools is just the type of school system we wanted to help when we created the Video Insight School Security Grant program,” said Video Insight Chief Executive Officer Robert Shaw. “We know that our contribution will help Columbia County Schools enhance their school security and help provide some much needed piece of mind in protecting their students and employees.”

Every month of 2014, Video Insight is awarding a school or college the equipment necessary to implement a video surveillance solution (software, hardware, and support valued at over $20,000 each).
