The Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO), representing security experts in higher and further education globally, has expressed its shock and sadness following a serious incident at the University of Surrey on June 4th.
The organisation's primary concern is for the member of the University's Campus Safety team who was seriously injured while performing their duties. AUCSO has reached out to the University of Surrey, offering support to its Campus Safety team and wider staff as needed. Given the ongoing police investigation, the organisation refrains from commenting further on the incident's specifics. Figen Murray OBE, AUCSO's Patron, stated: "I am deeply saddened to hear of this shocking incident and my thoughts are with the injured member of the Campus Safety team, their family, colleagues and the wider University of Surrey community."
She also remarked on the essential role of those maintaining campus and public safety, acknowledging their courage and dedication. "At moments like this, it is so important that we stand alongside them and recognise the humanity, professionalism and bravery shown by those who respond when others are in need," she added.
