2012 will be the crucial year for security surveillance industry, say IFSEC 2012 organisers

The Next Generation CCTV and Surveillance seminars will run on all four days of IFSEC International
IFSEC will provideeducation programme to showcase new product technology and applications

With security in the national and international spotlight like never before, IFSEC International 2012 organisers say that this year is the most crucial for the surveillance industry in the last decade.

Security issues have rarely been out of the headlines over the past 12 months, with phone hacking, private investigators, data breaches, rioting, and the constant threat of terrorism all major talking points. And with the London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations just around the corner, it’s crunch time for the security business.

IFSEC International event director Charlie Cracknell said: “2012 is a crucial year for the video surveillance industry, with major international events putting the spotlight firmly on the UK, data and privacy breaches in the news, and the memory of last year’s riots still fresh in the public mind. And, of course, the threat of terror attacks remains very real.”

“As a consequence, it’s of utmost importance that those involved in all aspects of the security business – from installers to consultants to end users – are as informed as possible about the most pressing surveillance issues and the latest developments in CCTV technology.”

“So at IFSEC International this year we are providing a comprehensive education programme and a range of features to showcase new product technology and applications.”

One of the newest tools for the prevention and forensic investigation of data breaches is Physical Security Information Management, or PSIM. At IFSEC International Centre Stage – a new show feature where keynote addresses and debates on vital industry issues will take place – a session on PSIM will look at the new technology from the perspective of the manufacturer, installer, consultant and user.

Another important security innovation is the convergence of physical and logical security, allying surveillance with IT security. The ‘Convergence and the Future of Security’ session will ask whether end users are buying into the convergence agenda – and what it might mean for security management.

The dedicated Next Generation CCTV & Surveillance theatre, produced in association with Digital Grape and sponsored by Tyco Security Products, plays host to a massive range of seminars and workshops allowing visitors to discover how new technologies can improve their current security solutions and their technical expertise.

A highlight is the session run by CCTV specialist Jon Laws, who will be talking about the future of surveillance, including the potential for three-dimensional solutions. He will touch upon technical areas involved with cameras, image displays and both recording and transmission solutions.

Other seminars will look at ‘the cloud’, asking what VSaaS, or video surveillance as a service, will mean to the security industry; technology trends in megapixel cameras; the potential for automating control of surveillance systems using radar; examining whether storage on the edge of a network, in devices such as individual cameras, will help to drive convergence in the UK market; the differences between video content analysis and motion detection; and much more. The Next Generation CCTV and Surveillance seminars will run on all four days of IFSEC International.

There will also be a focus on IP-based surveillance education, with the debut of the ipAssured Education Zone, produced in association with Anixter, where a team of experts will offer presentations for both installer and end user visitors on leading industry trends and discuss the latest in IP infrastructure and technology with the industry’s foremost technical experts.

IP CCTV is on the agenda at the Tavcom Training Theatre, where two keynote speakers will provide a no nonsense insight into the future of electronic security, and industry experts will be on hand to provide answers to technical questions. There will also be guest speakers demonstrating how the technologies are being used in real life case studies.

Show features also include a section dedicated to ‘How Lighting Affects Surveillance’ and where visitors can investigate the freshest, most cutting-edge technologies.

And of course the CCTV product area on the show floor will, as always, provide an opportunity to investigate the very latest surveillance products, and speak to manufacturers about implementation and future plans.

Cracknell said: “With so much focus on the security industry, IFSEC International 2012 is the one place for all security professionals to come and debate the current critical issues and learn more about new technologies.”

IFSEC International 2012 takes place at the NEC Birmingham from May 14-17.
