SCD, a company specialising in defence technology and known for its infrared detector solutions, has secured a significant contract to supply HD MWIR (Mid-Wave Infrared) detectors.
The contract involves the delivery of these detectors to a long-time client in Asia, where they will be used in Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) implemented in various international locations.
Advances in EOIR systems for ground platforms
This important order results from a collaborative development effort with a client that has collaborated with SCD on previous MWIR technology iterations. The transition to the HD MWIR detector range, including models like the BlackBird 1280, signifies a shift towards the next generation of high-performance Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) systems for ground-based platforms.
These detectors aim to deliver improved image quality, enhanced Detection, Recognition, and Identification (DRI), as well as increased reliability and operational endurance.

Additionally, the technology allows for optional optical zoom with minimal or no need for new optics design investment, achieving cost savings when upgrading from current VGA-based systems. This new generation of detectors also extends lifecycle and ensures long-term support.
