The European Defence Fund (EDF), under the European Commission, approved funding for the Consortium FAMOUS2, aiming to advance European land combat capabilities. This project focuses on developing future modular ground vehicles and integrating enabling technologies, including eco-friendly solutions. Arquus, alongside Patria of Finland, Nexter from France, and 15 other companies from various European nations, has been confirmed as a participant in this endeavour.
Collaboration Across Nine Nations
FAMOUS2 is supported by nine European countries, including a notable presence from France, and receives nearly €95 million in funding from the EU. This initiative marks a significant step in European defence cooperation, particularly for Arquus, which contributes to this ambitious project shaping the future of land defence in Europe.
Advancing Armoured Vehicle Technology
The main goal of FAMOUS2 is to develop technological components for next-generation armoured platforms and to enhance existing models such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), light armoured vehicles (LAVs), and main battle tanks (MBTs). Building on the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) 2020 FAMOUS project, FAMOUS2 will further research vehicle and systems concepts, with activities anticipated to commence by 2023 and conclude in 2026.
Key Role of Arquus
Arquus is regarded as a leading expert in light and medium armoured vehicles, propulsion, and energy management, and will significantly contribute to FAMOUS2, particularly in vehicle architecture, mobility, and power systems. Arquus's participation is expected to bolster capabilities, innovation, and cooperation among prominent European defence industry players.

The European Commission approved the funding by the European Defence Fund (EDF) of defence industry Consortium FAMOUS2 proposal for European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems.
The follow-up of the FAMOUS project, FAMOUS2 aims at developing future modular ground vehicles and enabling technologies, including green technologies.
Already member of the Consortium and part of the FAMOUS effort, Arquus is very pleased to be part of FAMOUS2, alongside coordinator Patria from Finland, fellow French major Defence company and partner Nexter, as well as 15 other companies from Finland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Norway, Latvia and Denmark.
Supported by nine countries
The project is supported by nine countries including France and will be funded by the EU just short of 95 million Euros.
It is a major step forward for European defence industrial cooperation, as well as for Arquus which will take part in a most ambitious and exciting land defence program which should help shape the future of European land defence.
Developing technological building blocks
The FAMOUS2 project aims at developing technological building blocks for the next generation armoured platforms and upgrades existing platforms, such as future all-terrain vehicle (ATV), light armoured vehicle (LAV) and Main Battle Tank (MBT).
It is building on the ongoing EDIDP 2020 FAMOUS project, thus following-up the research on vehicles and systems concepts during this precursor project. The FAMOUS2 project should start by 2023 and end by 2026 and will focus on vehicle architecture, which will be followed by the designing, building and testing of prototypes developed in that framework.
As a specialist of light and medium armored vehicles, as well as propulsion and energy management, Arquus will play a major role within FAMOUS2, especially in vehicle architecture, mobility and power. Through this project, Arquus will participate in enhancing the capabilities, innovation and cooperation levels among European Defence key players.
