American Fibertek CXB-6p and CX-6p Ethernet Switches source power to the devices from the RJ45 ports over the copper connection

American Fibertek Inc. (afi) recently introduced two new additions to its line of Ethernet devices at ISC West (booth #13147). The new CX series of Ethernet Switches are designed for maximum flexibility and convenient system management and feature four 10/100 Base-TX RJ45 ports with PoE capability, two 1000 Base-X SFP ports, four contacts in/out, two probe ports and a serial port. The CXB-6p-PoE Switch is AC powered with battery back-up capability and available in an RU chassis while the CX-6p-PoE Switch is powered from a 48V DC power supply and available in a module package.

“afi continues to develop new solutions that improve and simplify transmission system deployments and ease the migration to a networked platform,” said Jack Fernandes, President and CEO of afi. “Whether an organisation is installing a new security system or upgrading, our PoE capable Ethernet switches offer a full-featured, time-saving and economical solution.”

The CXB-6p and CX-6p Ethernet Switches source power to the devices from the RJ45 ports over the copper connection. All RJ45 ports may be used to deliver PoE (802.3af 15 watts). The CXB-6p Switch is AC line powered (90 to 264V AC, 47 to 63Hz) with an option to provide an external 48V DC power input on the rear of the unit. The CX-6p Switch is powered from a 48V DC power supply (sold separately).

The CXB-6p and CX-6p Ethernet Switches are designed to be completely transparent with auto negotiation features that automatically configures the unit for the correct speed (10/100 Base-TX). Auto MDI/MDIX operation eliminates the potential need for crossover cables, and diagnostic indicators provide a quick visual indication of system status. Two afi USB style probe ports can be used to monitor temperature, airflow, humidity, line voltage, frequency and power. Auxiliary inputs are software selectable for Normally Open or Normally Closed. Auxiliary outputs on the CXB-6p have a maximum current of 1.0A and for the CX-6p, a maximum of 0.5A. Both devices feature Form C relay types.

The CX Series Ethernet Switches are also equipped with the afi Watchdog Ping system that can detect when devices fail to respond over the network. Upon loss of ping, an auxiliary contact may be cycled or PoE power to a specified port may be cycled to restore the network to normal operation.
