VIVOTEK IP surveillance system deployed at Aceros del Toro steel plants across Mexico
VIVOTEK IP surveillance system deployed at Aceros del Toro steel plants across Mexico

Aceros Del Toro steel manufacturer With humble beginnings as a scrap collector in 1978, Aceros Del Toro has gone through many years of tempering to become one of the key steel manufacturers and providers, serving both Mexico and the United States. With a Mexico City service centre beginning operations in 1990, a Guadalajara distribution centre opening in 1992, and the commencement of manufacturing at plants in 2011 and 2012, this young and driven company has grown to become a market leader with branches in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Celaya. Since 2009, after achieving ISO 9000 certification, the company has diversified with a forklift and logistics division and is now expanding into further fields.  Upgrading surveillance to meet new standards Behind the rapid growth and solid performance of Aceros Del Toro is a philosophy of reliability and security, summed up concisely in their slogan, “stronger than steel is your trust.” Aceros Del Toro has always placed reliable service and impeccable quality assurance ahead of profit margins and continues to do so as the company grows. In today’s turbulent times, and with increasingly high international standards of security, Aceros Del Toro decided it was time to revolutionise its surveillance systems. Doing so would further ensure the reliability of Aceros Del Toro’s steel products and secure access to United States markets through compliance with the anti-terrorist C-TPAT protocol. The company required a system that offered around the clock centralised surveillance control and monitoring, and IP networking to facilitate total HD surveillance of Aceros Del Toro’s expansive manufacturing plants and offices. Mr. Cesareo Guajardo of Aceros Del Toro reached out to distributors Novalan Computadoras y Redes to see if such a system could be installed. The solution: A total surveillance system VIVOTEK has never shied away from a challenge, and quickly presented a design tailored to the requirements of Aceros Del Toro. Despite the large operating area, including both indoor and outdoor spaces, manufacturing areas, offices and surveillance booths, VIVOTEK was able to provide a full HD, long range IP network surveillance system which utilised only 40 IP network cameras. Each model was chosen specifically to meet the diverse surveillance demands found across Aceros Del Toro’s facilities. IP8335H bullet network cameras, installed throughout the office areas produced clear imagery no matter what the lighting condition IP8362 bullet network cameras For the outdoor zones of the facilities, 15 IP8362 bullet network cameras were installed in order to cover an area of more than two thousand square meters. The IP8362, with full HD resolution in 16:9 aspect ratio and WDR enhancement, provides crystal clear coverage in both the bright Mexican sun and through the darkness of the night. The rugged nature of the steel business combined with a high range of temperature fluctuation across the location of Aceros Del Toro’s facilities poses no challenge to the IP8362; its IP67-rated housing protects the camera body against rain and dust and ensures operation under all weather conditions. IP8335H bullet network cameras Office spaces throughout the facilities of Aceros Del Toro posed a further challenge as many were exposed to bright light, however 10 IP8335H bullet network cameras, installed strategically throughout the office areas proved more than capable of producing clear imagery no matter what the lighting condition. The IP8335H features an HD WDR CMOS sensor, and the resulting WDR Pro feature enables the camera to capture both the dark and bright parts of an image with double shutters, enabling two frames to be combined. FD8335H fixed dome cameras Completing the upgrade of Aceros Del Toro’s facilities, VIVOTEK’s FD8335H fixed dome cameras provided eyes in the sky at surveillance booths especially for their audio recording capability and compatibility with door-frame metal detectors. Two SD8313E speed dome network cameras, offering wide range coverage and high-resolution imagery were installed at external surveillance booths to monitor both access points and indoor facilities. The whole system was connected to VIVOTEK’s central management software- VAST IB8367 bullet network cameras Finally, two IB8367 bullet network cameras, providing 2MP easy and cost effective installation options for long range surveillance projects, and equipped with Smart IR, secured both the indoor and outdoor areas of Aceros Del Toro’s rental warehouse. Moreover, the footages of 8 channel network cameras have been recorded to VIVOTEK’s 8-CH standalone network video recorder- ND8321 and the whole system was connected to VIVOTEK’s central management software- VAST. In fact, Aceros Del Toro was so satisfied with the upgrade in surveillance provided by VIVOTEK and Novalan Computadoras y Redes that it has already commenced installation of further VIVOTEK IP cameras at several of its other facilities outside of the steel sector and is investigating surveillance options at other plants in Mexico and Guadalajara. Mr. Cesareo Guajardo of Aceros Del Toro, said, “We obtained the C-TPAT auditors approval, complied with the vision of a globalised monitoring centre and are satisfied with the quality of the cameras as well as with the design of the solution in general. For this reason we were requested to make a proposal for each of the plants as well as businesses not related to the steel industry. It was an excellent decision to acquire these top-notch systems –high quality, user friendly- and we want to replicate the experience in my other plants.”

VIVOTEK IP surveillance solution upgrades security at Ag Processing facilities in the US

AGP developed a total-surveillance system for the Algona facility with high quality component Ag Processing: agricultural cooperative at the forefront of the global economy Ag Processing Inc. a cooperative (AGP) has more experiences than almost any other company in the procurement, processing, marketing, and transportation of oilseeds, grains, and related products. Since 1983, AGP has expanded not only its experience, but also the extent of its vast network which now includes 172 cooperatives representing more than 250,000 farmers across the Mid-West United States, and additional regional cooperatives in the US and in Canada. AGP also serves as the largest Cooperative Soybean processing company in the world and is a leading provider of soybean meal and refined vegetable oils. Despite this complex network, AGP’s mission is simple: help local producers earn more from their crops by linking them to markets around the globe. The challenge: updating old analogue surveillance systems Agriculture is an old business, but AGP knows that the old ways of doing things aren’t always the best. To continue its remarkable growth, AGP has always striven to find the latest techniques and technology in order to serve its producers and customers around the world. In 2012, AGP had to acknowledge that its old surveillance systems were no longer meeting the requirements of AGP’s growing business. Throughout many of AGP’s plants and facilities, analogue video systems were still being used - the time was ripe to update to a digital, IP based system that could be developed and installed across all of AGP’s many facilities. The acquisition of a new facility at Algona Iowa, presented an excellent opportunity to bring its surveillance system up to date, so AGP reached out to system integrators Hyperion, who set about looking for the best possible surveillance system to suit AGP’s needs. The solution: VIVOTEK and AGP, a growing relationship AGP’s search for the best possible IP based video surveillance system let it to the VIVOTEK brand. Working closely with Hyperion, AGP developed a total-surveillance system for the Algona facility that incorporated high quality components delivered at a cost effective price. VIVOTEK’s total surveillance solutions secure the future of Tungnan University’s students
VIVOTEK’s total surveillance solutions secure the future of Tungnan University’s students

Tungnan University, established in 1970, is an educational institution dedicated to securing bright futures for all of its students. Given the prosperity of industrial development and the demand for industrial technicians at the time of its founding, the school was originally established as a junior college of technology by Mr. Zhi-Ping Jiang. In 2000 the school was promoted to an institute of technology and finally became Tungnan University in 2005. Having undergone great growth, Tungnan University is now composed of four school colleges, including thirteen departments and four graduate schools. The University is located on the hillsides of Shenkeng district, New Taipei City, a location provides a pleasant natural environment for students, faculty and staff, but it also creates its own challenges. Transferring from analogue system Rapid growth sometimes means growing pains, and Tungnan University, now with 7300 students, had outgrown its old analogue surveillance system. Given that the old system no longer functioned stably and failed to provide clear images, the school decided to find a new solution, one that could protect Tungnan University students in any weather, at any time. Keeping track, and ensuring the safety, of staff and students in an expanded campus will always present a challenge for security systems. However, as the campus was built into the hillside, and lightening occasionally caused power outages, as well damaged school facilities and equipment, the new system didn’t just need to be smart, it needed to be tough. In addition, the large area covered by the campus meant that any system needed the ability to cover many spaces though one intuitive control system. Tungnan management had decided that an independent campus security centre would be established, in order to take charge of the security of the whole school, and guarantee the safety of over 7300 students. Tungnan University got in touch with the experts at Apogear distributers, who looked at the list of requirements and set to work planning the perfect system. Total coverage and total protection Apogear knew that there was only one surveillance solution provider able to not just meet, but exceed Tungnan University’s expectations - VIVOTEK. Together, Tungnan University, Apogear and VIVOTEK set about planning a system that would watch over and protect the university’s students. Given the broad expanses of Tungnan University’s campus, 135 network cameras were installed across a variety of spaces to ensure total coverage and total protection. For outdoor spaces and underground parking lots, 66 IP8364-C bullet network cameras provided night and day, all weather surveillance. Equipped with a 2MP sensor enabling viewing resolution of 1920x1080 at a smooth 30 fps, the IP8364-C is an all-in-one outdoor camera capable of capturing high quality and high resolution video up to 2 Megapixels. In order to adapt to the constantly changing outdoor lighting conditions of Tungnan University’s hillside location, the IP8364-C features a removable IR-cut filter as well as IR illuminators effective up to 20M for superior image quality around the clock. And for protection against the harsh mountain weather, the camera is encased in an IP66-rated housing and weather-proof casing to withstand rain and dust. Together, Tungnan University, Apogear and VIVOTEK set about planning a system that would watch over and protect the university’s students Day and night security For tops of buildings, corridors, and stairways, Apogear and VIVOTEK recruited the IP8362 bullet network camera for its 2MP resolution, WDR, Focus Assist, and built tough IP67 rated housing. The IP8362 is a best-in-class 1080p outdoor bullet network camera designed for diverse outdoor applications. With full HD resolution and WDR enhancement, users can identify image details in extremely bright as well as dark environments. Now Tungnan University’s changeable weather would no longer challenge the University’s surveillance system – not matter how bright, or how dim, students could feel safe anywhere on campus. A further 20 IP8332-C bullet network cameras provided day and night protection of corridors and stairs with their built in IR illuminators effective up to 15 meters, and removable IR cut filter for day and night function. Finally, rounding out this great class of VIVOTEK cameras, 6 FD8134 fixed dome network cameras provided 350-degree pan range and 70 degree range coverage of elevators. The FD8134 supports the industry-standard H.264 compression technology, drastically reducing file sizes and conserving valuable network bandwidth, meaning savings on storage and allowing more money to be spent on the education of Tungnan’s talented students. Safest Possible Educational Environment Finally, tying the entire system together are 9 ND8401 network video recorders. United by VAST, VIVOTEK’s state of the art video management software, these network video recorders are 16-CH network video recorders designed for sophisticated recording applications. Each unit is equipped with an Intel Dual-core Atom Processor with maximum recording throughput at a robust 96 Mbps. RAID 0/1/5/10 is supported with four HDDs, with an external eSATA port for additional expansion. Further, with VAST integrating all 9 network recorders and all 135 IP network cameras, Tungnan University security staff are able to use free, and intuitive functions to watch over the students via a video wall solution, VAST Matrix, which allows for the live viewing of hundreds of cameras. Now, as it has been doing since 1970, Tungnan University can concentrate on providing its young students with the brightest possible future, secure in the knowledge that VIVOTEK is ensuring the safest possible educational environment.
