For the huge new City Hall of Hanghzou, one of the largest metropolitan areas of China, the local government was searching for a new payment system. 3Core Technologies offered a LEGIC based solution that remains open for future applications.

Hangzhou City Hall is the new representative municipal building of the City of Hangzhou, located as a landmark in the modern district on Qiantang bank. With a floor area of 580,000 m2, the City Hall is composed of six main buildings, four surrounding buildings and one circular meeting center. Though already accommodating a large number of governmental organisations, the building will become even more important in the future as a centre for further municipal organisations.

To cater for an ever-increasing number of office staff in an efficient and convenient way, the canteens of Hangzhou City Hall decided to install a contactless electronic payment system. After evaluating various payment solutions, they opted for a stable and efficient POS system developed and produced by 3Core Technologies, a professional Chinese manufacturer of contactless smart card equipment.

The beating heart of the recently installed system is a LEGIC advant reader chip for personal identification, payment and recharging at the eight POS terminals. On the other side, LEGIC credential chips are inlayed inside each of the more than 8000 staff badges that save the individual account information. As more governmental and municipal organisations will be moving into the new administrative building, the amount of reader terminals and released cards will increase.

One of the main reasons for deciding on the LEGIC advant based solution of 3Core was its flexible expandability for future applications. As the technology allows for the combination of many applications on one single card, it is intended to expand the range of applications, adding an additional functionality for access control at the main entrances.
