In April every year, major industry players gather in Moscow's largest exhibition venue, Expocentre, to discuss trends in the industry and test out the latest offerings from domestic and international suppliers. Russia's security industry continues to occupy a notable place on the global market, influencing global trends with its latest technology developments and industry achievements. According to global market reports, the total value of Russian purchases of security equipment and services exceeded $17bn in 2008. It is apparent that Russia's security industry continues to develop despite the turbulent global economy. The comprehensive business programme is one of the key features of MIPS. The international conference ‘New Demands for Security and Safety of Complex Objects and Transactions' is held during MIPS, welcoming approximately 180 delegates, many of whom are government representatives. The conference annually promotes mutually beneficial cooperation and interaction amongst a wide range of scientific, industrial, commercial and governmental bodies. The ultimate aim of the conference is to develop new strategies for the Russian security industry. The platinum sponsor for the MIPS Conference 2009 was PELCO. Furthermore, the "Best Innovative Product" contest generates huge interest every year. The main aim of the contest is to identify and promote the most innovative and high-quality products and services in the security industry. Since 2009, the contest winner's equipment is listed in the governmental list of recommended products, which means the winning companies have the right to sell direct to equipment installers and end-users without going through lengthy certification procedures. MIPS 2009 marked the 15th edition of the event, featuring 315 companies who represented 20 countries, and welcoming 12,800 registered trade visitors - an increase of 7.5% from 2008. As MIPS 2009 drew to a close, 78% of exhibitors already re-booked for MIPS 2010!
