Company overview:

Network Video Monitoring (NVM)

Network video monitoring enables the customer to use networks and network devices (PCs, servers etc) to manage video.  NVM enables anyone with appropriate rights to access video footage and control cameras from any PC equipped with local client software.

The cameras are essentially computers - they plug into the network with a standard connector and have their own IP addresses.  In contrast to CCTV cameras these cameras can have a degree of autonomy; intelligent functionality enables them to take actions on their own, e.g. sending an email to a specified address should they receive an alarm trigger or automatically start recording when they detect activity in a specified area.

The ability for multiple, geographically widespread stakeholders to access live footage in store has numerous implications:

  • Video resources can have duplicate functions (e.g. security and research)
  • Video access can be given easily to third party brands, enabling them to view actual reactions to their line-ups vs competitors
  • Responses to advertising can be monitored (such as that placed on in-store screens)
  • Merchandisers can establish the effect of in store layouts
  • Clothing designers can monitor their actual customer base, in real time, assisting with the design of new clothing lines

Sony has many years of experience in the development of video monitoring products and systems, ranging from video cameras, servers, storage and archiving systems to remote video monitoring and control software.  Sony's NVM solutions offer a new generation of all-Network Video Monitoring solutions that reduce the cost and increase the flexibility of video monitoring applications of all kinds.

Network Video Cameras
Sony's range of Network Video Cameras delivers crisp, clear colour pictures even in low-light conditions.  Installation and set up is quick, with video, audio and control signals carried over a standard Ethernet network connection.  Some models include a power-over-Ethernet feature to simplify installation and fulfil legal requirements in demanding environments.  All network cameras include an embedded web server, so camera functions can be controlled via the same browser, and multiple users can access pictures from the same camera, as governed by a system administrator.

Network Video Management Software
Network video management software, through Sony's RealShot™ Manager, allows organisations to view, record, manage and control networked devices like cameras, servers, I/O boxes and alarms all from one location.  It is a powerful, easy-to-use camera management platform that is accessible through an intuitive, customisable client server application, and even over the web.

Network Video Recorders
Network Video Recorders are ideal for mission-critical network monitoring applications.  They can store and replay multiple video streams simultaneously and offer high storage capacities.
