Samsung Techwin at the heart of the University of London’s CCTV system
The University of London is one of the UK’s oldest universities and is recognised globally as a world-leader in Higher Education. With the safety and security of students, staff and guests being of prime importance, the University launched an improvement plan that would address any shortcomings in the existing security systems. Balfour Beatty WorkPlace drove the project and Link CCTV Systems won the contract to project manage the operation. As part of the improvement plan, CCTV coverage was increased around entry/exit and reception areas, as well as in the Halls of Residence buildings. The University’s CCTV control room was also relocated from Senate House to Stewart House in Russell Square. The new facility features a new monitor display and also provides a platform for further growth. Samsung Techwin’s digital recording equipment played a key role by providing real-time recorded images for all precinct and local building cameras. The images are available to building management and security teams via Samsung’s Net-I or SmartViewer software. Additionally, over 90 new cameras were installed in Senate House, Stewart House and the precinct areas.
