HID's multiCLASS Magnetic Stripe line of readers is available on U.S. GSA FIPS 201 Evaluation Program's list of approved products

HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, announced that it has expanded its multiCLASS Magnetic Stripe line of readers available on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) FIPS 201 Evaluation Program's list of approved products to now include non-keypad readers.

The listing enables U.S. Government organisations to purchase HID Global's latest physical access reader products as they begin to implement migration programs from legacy magnetic stripe (magstripe) cards to contactless 13.56 MHz FIPS 201 credentials, for both single- and two-factor authentication scenarios.

HID Global's multiCLASS line of multi-technology readers allows an agency's access control system to function properly during the transition from current card technology to new FIPS 201 card requirements.

The multiCLASS readers contain patented features that simplify the conversion to the new standard because they are capable of simultaneously reading legacy cards and the new FIPS 201 cards. The readers are built on an extremely flexible platform that allows for numerous output configurations to address compatibility challenges with all access control systems and to permit the ability to be upgraded when needed.

"HID Global has more than 40 products on the FIPS 201 Approved Products List (APL)," said Dave Adams, senior product marketing manager with HID Global. "The certifications indicate our dedication to, and ability to Minimizesupport, valued customers in the federal government, by providing innovative access control solutions to meet their current and future needs. Government organisations can now benefit from HID Global's Genuine HIDTM value proposition, which encompasses a unique set of value-added customer and partner advantages including the industry's largest selection of reader and credential migration solutions."

HID Global's new FIPS 201- and UL294/cUL- certified solutions extend the company's multi-technology offerings

In addition to achieving FIPS 201 certification, HID Global has also achieved UL294/cUL outdoor certification on all multiCLASS Magnetic Stripe readers. Customers who require this rating at installations in North America can now deploy HID Global readers to accelerate the cost-effective, secure and truly seamless migration from magstripe and proximity card technology to secure contactless smart cards.

Jointly, HID Global's new FIPS 201- and UL294/cUL-certified solutions extend the company's multi-technology offerings that provide a migration path from legacy magstripe and 125 kHz technologies to higher security 13.56 MHz smart cards, with no operational disruption.

HID Global secures many of the country's vital institutions and works with government and industry leaders to address physical access control needs with rigorous standards of protection. An industry leader in access control cards and readers, HID Global is targeting its FIPS 201 multiCLASS readers at federal, municipal, state and local governments which must be prepared to respond to the ever-changing regulatory landscape and technological advancements.

HID's FIPS-201-certified multiCLASS readers recently won the Security Products Magazine Govies Award, which recognises outstanding products in government security.
