HID Global Extends iCLASS® Reader Architecture
HID Global has extended it's iCLASS® readers for the Dutch government's Rijkspas program
HID Global, the trusted source for solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced the launch of its Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS®smart card reader designed for Dutch government agencies adopting MIFARE DESFire® EV1 smart card technology. Featuring DESFire EV1 technology and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to protect data transfer between the credential and reader as required by the Rijkspas specification, the reader enables government entities to utilise their existing card population while migrating to the new Dutch Rijkspas.

Offering a wide range of mounting methods and accessories with simultaneous support of MIFARE® Classic and HID Prox , the reader is capable of reading legacy cards and the new Rijkspas cards, further simplifying conversion to the new standard. The new reader is built on HID's flexible iCLASS architecture and allows for numerous output configurations to address migration challenges with a multitude of access control systems and provides the ability to be upgraded when needed.

"The extension of our iCLASS reader architecture further demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to meeting government standards, programs and initiatives worldwide with solutions such as HID's iCLASS FIPS 201  and the Dutch Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers," said Brad Jarvis, vice president, Product Marketing, HID Global.

Field upgradeable using convenient reader firmware cards, Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers have the option to be re-configured to support additional or substitute applications including traditional iCLASS credentials, allowing installations the flexibility to address a change in tenancy. Additionally, configuration cards can change the various reader behaviours, including beeper/LED operation and custom MIFARE Classic configurations.
