Crime awareness day held at Elephant and Castle shopping centre
Local crime awareness day held at Elephant and Castle shopping centre

First Security played its part at a local community crime awareness day, held at Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre last weekend, alongside the Met Police and the British Transport Police.

The day was organised by the Shopping Centre Manager, Mike Knell and was sponsored by the shopping centre owners, St Modwen Properties along with Global Aware International and Signcraft.  The event was opened with a speech from Simon Hughes, MP for North Southwark and Bermondsey, and Denise Capstick, Deputy Mayor of Southwark.

First Security held a stand alongside key community organisations including the Met Police, British Transport Police, Community Wardens, Southwark Anti Social Behaviour Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Wandsworth Council Anti Crime Unit, Mothers Against Murder and Aggression, and the Say No to Drugs Say Yes to Life Campaign sponsored by the Church of Scientology.

Commenting on First Security's contribution, Managing Director Mike Crump said: "We have a team of some 20 officers providing security at the centre and we have been working with Mike Knell and his team for about four years. The crime awareness day gave people from the local community an opportunity to stop and chat with our officers, ask questions about crime prevention and the work that they carry out day to day."

Mike Knell was pleased with the response to the day and has been encouraged by the number of people who asked that similar events be organised: "We were pleased to host the event and provide the local community with access to a number of high profile crime prevention organisations, with representatives on hand to offer advice and support. The feedback from members of the public, and from those organisations involved, has been very positive and we look forward to organising another event later this year," he concludes.
