Financial institutions are investing in new software and hardware to meet EMV standards for smart payment cards
The acquisition broadens HID Global’s secure issuance business beyond printers and consumables

HID Global, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, recently announced that it has acquired DemoTeller, a leading provider of instant issuance solutions for the financial market.  With this acquisition, HID Global is now able to address the needs of financial institutions and retailers for instant issuance of personalised financial or payment cards, such as a “chip card,” with a fully integrated solution. DemoTeller adds solution, installation and maintenance services to broaden HID Global’s secure issuance business beyond printers and consumables. HID Global is addressing a growing segment of the secure issuance market in North America.

Instant issuance market

HID Global’s entry into the instant issuance market for financial institution-issued cards with the acquisition of DemoTeller is significant for our secure issuance business,” said Stefan Widing, President and CEO of HID Global. “We will now be able to improve the user experience with more convenience and seamless integration across hardware, software and services, providing a one-stop shop for a solution that already ties into core banking infrastructure.”

DemoTeller’s offerings expand HID Global’s secure issuance portfolio to include financial instant issuance software, hosted distributed printers and HSM hardware. DemoTeller enables HID Global to sell a financial instant issuance solution to financial institutions and retailers, addressing the needs of payment card issuers wanting to offer their customers instant access to their payment card offerings. HID Global’s channel and financial industry partners sell into this market today and will enjoy the benefits of working with a single source solution provider moving forward.

Meeting EMV standards

Financial institutions are investing in new software and hardware to meet EMV standards for smart payment cards – also called chip cards.

The DemoTeller solution, coupled with HID Global’s printers and consumables, gives financial institutions and retailers the ability to hand a customer a personalised card that is activated, which increases the likelihood that the customer will use it immediately. At the same time, consumers value the instant gratification of receiving a payment card.  HID Global now connects this convenience and efficiency with the market-specific solution from DemoTeller to complement HID’s existing printers that are used to personalise cards.

Trusted identity solutions

DemoTeller’s reputation for high quality is a perfect match with HID Global’s reputation for high-quality, trusted identity solutions to best serve the needs of financial institutions,” said Charlie East, the head of DemoTeller.  “DemoTeller’s customers can have great confidence that HID Global is customer-centric and will invest in the instant issuance portfolio to future-proof customer deployments, as part of its well-established position as a provider of compliant, secure identity solutions across the financial market.”

HID Global’s existing secure issuance business, which is led by Craig Sandness, Vice President and Managing Director, Secure Issuance with HID Global, encompasses a range of credential personalisation solutions.  The portfolio features HID Global’s flagship FARGO® desktop card personalisation systems and its IAI range of solutions for the issuance of highly secure passports, cards, and banknotes. HID Global recently released its latest Direct-to-Card (DTC®) FARGO® DTC5500LMX ID Card Printer/Encoder designed to meet high-volume, card issuance demands. The company also recently announced its new FARGO HDP5600 ID Card Printer/Encoder that builds upon its award-winning high-definition printing (HDP®) solutions for organisations focused on brand image and/or visual security.
