IDEMIA biometric system achieves OSIA qualified status

IDEMIA Smart Identity’s Biometric Recognition System (IBRS) has achieved Open Standards Identity API (OSIA) Qualified status. IBRS is a multimodal automated biometrics identification service. It enables governments to access a full array of biometric recognition-related services. OSIA enables seamless connectivity between the building blocks of the identity management ecosystem—independent of technology, solution architecture, or vendor. The qualification program is working to enhance the interoperability of identity management systems, support identity solution development, and address government requirements for OSIA compliance. OSIA global qualification program OSIA qualification program aims to address requirements for OSIA compliance The OSIA global qualification program aims to support the growing number of government bodies that want to introduce an OSIA qualification as a solution prerequisite during their tendering process. It is doing this by enabling the government-industry collaboration needed to build open, innovative, and future-proof national identity systems. The OSIA qualification program, managed by GlobalPlatform on behalf of the Security Identity Alliance, aims to address requirements for OSIA compliance. "IBRS is at the very heart of IDEMIA Smart Identity’s modular identity management solution. Receiving this qualification is an important milestone for us and our customers," Guillaume Berteau, Senior Product Manager, IDEMIA Smart Identity. Future compatibility issues Berteau added: "At IDEMIA Smart Identity, we remain committed to the OSIA cause to prevent vendor lock-in and enable governments to strategically plan and evolve their systems without fear of future compatibility issues."  OSIA is an official International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard under ITU Standardisation Sector (ITU-T) Recommendation X.1281—APIs for interoperability of identity management systems.

The workshop will consider relative advantages to adopt a common model (against not doing it) in key fields such as security, privacy, interoperability, legal consent and others. How can eIDAS be implemented in order to best reflect this European model?  What recommendations for the identity infrastructure in Europe? The Alliance counts seven member companies to date, including the leaders in security technology and two Government Observers, EIDA (UAE) and BMI (Germany) Through a synoptic look of different states implementation (Estonia, Sweden, Germany, UK), the workshop will look at key aspects of the technical, legal interoperability aspects through trust levels, standards, and secure technology. From infrastructure to architecture: building interfaces and interoperability for long term preservation What are the key architecture recommendations to improve interoperability within a European model through Identities, credentials, signature, PKI and crypto for long term validation. The Alliance is also hosting a special breakfast meeting - welcoming participation from government/public organisations interested to foster international collaboration on Digital ID challenges and the issues of data security, citizen privacy, identity, authentication – and more.
