Mayflex celebrates its 100th anniversary

The Mayflex brand name was introduced in 1985 and became the name of the company shortly afterwards Mayflex the distributor of Converged IP Solutions, is celebrating a significant milestone this year, its 100th anniversary. The company was founded on 17th March 1917 as Mayall & Co as a distributor of Swan Kettles by John William Mayall and stayed in the family for three generations. Mayflex history The Mayflex brand name was introduced in 1985 and became the name of the company shortly afterwards. Around this time the company entered the communication cables market launching a range of coax, voice and RS232 cables. This new venture rapidly gathered momentum and led to the ongoing development of network cabling in the form of copper twisted pair and fibre optic cables as they grew in popularity. In January 1997, Mayflex introduced the Excel brand, a move which in just 20 years has revolutionised the structured cabling and rack market, setting new standards in product choice, performance, support and availability, underpinned by a ‘fair price’ strategy. Since its launch, Excel has grown to become an award-winning brand sold in over 70 countries and holds the number 1 position in the UK, based on the volume sold. Over the years Mayflex has forged many successful relationships with some of the industry’s most prolific vendors across networking, infrastructure and the security market and has been recognised with numerous awards for high service levels and performance. Sonepar acquisition In April 2015 Mayflex was acquired by Sonepar, an independent family-owned company with global market leadership in B-to-B distribution of electrical products and related services. Sonepar has €20.2 billion of revenue and is represented by 245 entities operating in 44 countries on five continents and provides Mayflex and its partners unrivalled long term stability, consistency and sustainability. Excel launches fantasy football game to mark Football World Cup 2014 in Brazil

Excel's Fantasy Football game allows people to pick their own ‘dream team’ made up of World Cup players Excel Networking Solutions, the copper and optical cabling infrastructure provider, has launched a fantasy football game to commemorate the forthcoming World Cup that takes place in Brazil in June 2014. Excel is inviting customers and people in the industry to sign up to the game which allows them to pick their own ‘dream team’ made up of any of the players taking part in the World Cup. Points are awarded based on actual results of the matches and the league table is updated after every match played. The Excel World Cup Fantasy Football game is free to take part and participants have the chance to win a star prize of £1000 worth of Sonos Sound System equipment and four weekly prizes of an ASUS Nexus 7” Tablet so even people late to the game will still have a chance to win a great prize. Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager commented ‘Fantasy football is great fun and provides another reason to keep your interest in the World Cup, should your home nation be knocked out. With the use of the mini-leagues, participants can challenge their colleagues, customers and friends to compete against each other as well as see how they fair in the main league.’ Calcutt continued ‘For those people that aren’t football experts the game provides a lucky dip option which automatically picks your initial team. Players can set up a team now and make as many changes as they want until team submission deadline of 20:00 BST on Thursday 12th June 2014, without using any of their transfers. Any transfers made after this time will be taken from their transfer allocation for that period. Calcutt concluded ‘The game is also mobile friendly so players can check their position and make transfers at any time to suit.’ The Excel World Cup Fantasy Football game is now live. The World Cup takes place between 12th June and 13th July 2014.

Mayflex gets shortlisted in the ‘Distribution of the Year’ category at the Network Computing Awards

Mayflex shortlisted for award at the Network Computing Awards taking place on 14th March 2013 Mayflex the Converged IP Solutions distributor, has once again been shortlisted in the category of ‘Distributor of the Year’ at the forthcoming Network Computing Awards which take place on Thursday 14th March 2013 at a ceremony in London. The Network Computing awards are held annually and have been running for 7 years and are particularly meaningful as they are voted for by the readers of Network Computing magazine and people within the industry. They were originally set up to recognise the companies, products and services in the industry that have most impressed the readers. Speaking about the Mayflex nomination Mark Simmons, Mayflex Sales Director said ‘We are delighted to be shortlisted again, last year we finished as the runner up but we would obviously be keen to win it this time round.  This year we’ve concentrated on our Business and Service essentials to make sure that Mayflex is the distributor of choice and with our focus on ‘Converged IP Solutions’ we are helping our customer base to expand their knowledge, product and service offerings. The Excel networking solution has also been shortlisted in the ‘Cabling Supplier of the Year’ category, which it has won for the last two years running.
