JVC partner, Shadow Security has installed JVC TK-C676E dome cameras at the new premier automotive group (PAG) centre in Boongate, Peterborough, UK

Marshall Motor Group opened its new 15-million pound PAG Centre in Peterborough and the relocation to this site of its existing Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo businesses in mid July, 2005. Shadow Security, who has had a long history with Marshall Motor Group and extensive knowledge of the automotive and aerospace security has installed around 45 JVC TK-C676E dome cameras. They were fitted externally for security monitoring during business operating hours alongside the PA and access control systems and has been designed with future expansion in mind.

The whole project took 7 months to design and 3 months to install.  Each franchise benefits from a dedicated showroom which has been designed to meet the respective manufacturer’s requirements, but share one 26-bay workshop and a large dedicated used car display area.  The former Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo sites in Boongate, Peterborough will now be refurbished to provide improved facilities and space for Toyota, Vauxhall and Chrysler Jeep.  The main security threats to the centre are theft and vandalism.

Images from the JVC TK-C676E dome cameras can be easily configured and controlled by systems from most DVR manufacturers.  At the new PAG centre, the dome cameras are configured using the latest version of the Digital Sprite 2 professional Digital Video Recorder from Dedicated Micros.  The system delivers live video images, playback and updated images, alarm monitoring, and an audio link.  Any alarm activations and video images during the secure period are sent to the remote monitoring station supplier via an ADSL line.   The operator can then take remote control of the cameras and give an audio warning to the site if required.

The control apparatus is also connected to the Marshall Secure Intranet to give the facility of live or archive material for the franchise managers or head office personnel who may want to view any of their sites at any time.  Shadow Security engineers also use this facility for the testing of cameras, alarm activations and audio tests.

“The system has been designed to look in rather than out.  The domes are installed on 6 metre Altron poles with flood lighting lamps which help the images after dark.  Redwave provide the microwave alarms and PIR (passive infrared detectors) alongside the cameras. They are situated on adjustable poles for the engineers to wind down for maintenance.  The wiring of the cameras was a challenge as several underground cable runs in ducting is used which is over 200 metres each. The provision for expansion has been incorporated in the design of cabling,” comments Brian Hodges, Director at Shadow Security.

The JVC TK-C676E domes installed produce high resolution images.  The day and night camera has 27x zoom lens and utilizes auto patrol, trace, pan, tilt & zoom functions in this installation.  The cameras have been designed to fit in with the overall look and meet the aesthetics of the centre.  “We worked with the architects to achieve the look” said Brian Hodges.

Brian Hodges adds, “We are delighted with the camera’s performance at Marshalls.  We have a good longstanding relationship with JVC as a supplier, and the technical support has been good.”

This is a sophisticated installation with a long standing partner.  Shadow Security are specialists in their field and have an exceptional understanding of their clients’ needs and attention to detail.  The TK-C676E dome cameras used in this installation not only look good but achieve maximum unobtrusive surveillance.
