ZeroEyes, the pioneering company behind the AI-powered gun detection video analytics platform, has announced a significant expansion of its services with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC). This move comes after a pilot programme proved successful, prompting RTC to integrate ZeroEyes technology across numerous key locations.
Since launching the implementation of ZeroEyes in June 2024, RTC has become the first transit agency in the United States to fully utilise weapons detection analytics. As part of a broader safety initiative complemented by armed security and GPS-enabled panic buttons for drivers, RTC reported a 40% decrease in passenger-on-passenger assaults and a 26% reduction in operator assaults throughout 2024.
RTC’s Commitment to Innovation
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently acknowledged RTC's efforts with two prestigious awards: the 2024 Innovation Award for the ZeroEyes deployment and the 2025 Bus Security Award for comprehensive safety measures safeguarding riders, drivers, and staff. These accolades underline RTC's dedication to innovation in public transit safety.
United Safety & Survivability Corporation, a key partner of ZeroEyes in the transit sector, praised RTC’s leadership. Joe Mirabile, President and CEO of United Safety, remarked, “RTC’s results clearly demonstrate how we can save lives when cutting-edge technology and a proactive safety mindset come together.” Mirabile also highlighted the partnership with ZeroEyes in advancing AI-driven threat detection, benefiting public transportation systems.
AI-Driven Threat Detection Technology
The ZeroEyes platform effectively enhances existing digital security setups by incorporating intelligent gun detection software. When a firearm is detected, images are swiftly sent to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), recognised as the sole U.S.-based, in-house centre staffed year-round by veterans from military and law enforcement backgrounds. This structure allows them to verify threats and provide actionable insights, like visual descriptions, gun types, and last known locations, to law enforcement and security teams in as little as 3 to 5 seconds.
Initial Success and Future Prospects
Mike Lahiff, CEO and cofounder of ZeroEyes, commented on the groundbreaking initial implementation by RTC, stating it has set a new standard for public transportation safety across the nation. “We are honoured to expand the deployment and continue protecting passengers and staff against gun-related threats,” Lahiff added, signalling the ongoing commitment to enhance safety measures within transit systems.
ZeroEyes, the creators of the first AI-based gun detection video analytics platform to earn the full US Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation, announced a more than 300% expansion of its deployment with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC). Following a successful pilot, RTC has made the decision to deploy ZeroEyes in many additional strategic locations.
RTC became the first transit agency in the United States to fully deploy weapons detection analytics when it launched its ZeroEyes implementation in June 2024. As part of a multi-pronged strategy including armed security officers and GPS-enabled panic buttons for drivers, RTC saw a 40% reduction in passenger-on-passenger assaults and a 26% drop in operator assaults over the course of 2024.

If a gun is identified, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Centre (ZOC), the industry's only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation centre, which is staffed 24/7/365 by specially trained U.S. military and law enforcement veterans.
If these experts determine the threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence — including visual description, gun type, and last known location — to law enforcement and local security teams as quickly as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.
RTC’s initial ZeroEyes implementation
“RTC’s initial ZeroEyes implementation set a new benchmark for safety in public transportation systems nationwide,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and Co-Founder of ZeroEyes.
He adds, “We are honoured to expand the deployment and continue protecting passengers and staff against gun-related threats.”
