AI-driven cybersecurity firm Shinobi has introduced a significant enhancement to its platform, offering the capability to penetration test mobile applications with the accuracy and reasoning traditionally associated with human experts. This new functionality enables continuous testing at the swift pace of machine operations.

With mobile phones now serving as digital repositories for personal and professional data, including financial information, communications, and health records, they have become increasingly attractive targets for cyber attackers.

Addressing new vulnerabilities

Shinobi's solution functions autonomously and always, completing evaluations in a matter of hours

The conventional method of mobile app penetration testing has been characterised as manual, time-consuming, and costly, often providing just a temporary assessment while updates continuously introduce new vulnerabilities.

Shinobi aims to revolutionise this process. Its AI-based pentesters replicate the exploratory and analytical techniques of elite human teams by inspecting code, mapping APIs, and identifying genuine attack vectors.

In contrast to conventional human-led tests, Shinobi's solution functions autonomously and continuously, completing evaluations in a matter of hours as opposed to weeks. This ensures that security measures remain in alignment with each new app release.

Enhancements with Shinobi's update

The latest update from Shinobi enables organisations to:

  • Perform ongoing testing of mobile applications in sync with developmental pace
  • Identify and address genuine, exploitable vulnerabilities, including those involving complex business logic
  • Cut down on testing time and expenditure by up to 90%

Mobile apps as business risk frontlines

"Mobile apps are crucial to every aspect of our daily lives, transforming into vaults for our personal and professional worlds, and thus becoming the primary front line of business risk," stated Varun Uppal, Founder and CEO of Shinobi.

"As attackers increasingly utilise AI, Shinobi equips defenders with the capability to counteract these threats more swiftly."

Show full press release

AI-powered cybersecurity firm Shinobi has announced a major expansion of its platform – the ability to penetration test mobile applications with the same skill, reasoning, and precision as human experts, but delivered continuously and at machine speed.

With phones having become vaults for employees’ digital lives, holding money, messages, health data, and work communications, attackers are increasingly targeting mobile apps.

New vulnerabilities emerge with every update

But traditional mobile app pentesting has long been manual, slow, and expensive, providing only a snapshot in time while new vulnerabilities emerge with every update.

Shinobi changes that, with its AI pentesters that understand, analyse, and exploit mobile apps the way elite human teams do – inspecting code, mapping APIs, and uncovering real attack paths.

But unlike human-led tests, Shinobi runs autonomously, continuously, and in hours instead of weeks, keeping security aligned with every release.

Shinobi's update

With this update, Shinobi enables organisations to:

  • Continuously test mobile apps at the speed of development
  • Detect real, exploitable vulnerabilities – including complex business logic flaws
  • Reduce testing time and cost by up to 90%

Front line of business risk

“Mobile apps are so essential to everything that we do. As a result, they have become vaults for our entire lives which means they become the front line of business risk,” said Varun Uppal, Founder and CEO of Shinobi.

“Attackers are already using AI, and Shinobi helps defenders fight back, faster.”
