|Security Essen is the international meeting place for solutions relating to everything to do with civil security
Security Essen is the international meeting place for solutions relating to everything to do with civil security: At the 20th global fair for security and fire protection technology, over 39,000 trade visitors from 115 countries obtained information from 1,086 exhibitors from 40 nations. Four days' long, companies and institutions presented their innovations at Messe Essen. Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen: "Over 35 percent of the trade visitors came to us from abroad. Therefore, Security Essen is by far the most international fair worldwide in the field of civil security. The internationality amongst our exhibitors was 46 percent - thus, the trade visitors were able to profit from a comprehensive range on offer with solutions from all over the world. Therefore, our trade fair has once again provided impressive proof of its position as the number one in the sector."
The strong interest in security solutions was reflected in the positive economic situation of the sector: The worldwide turnover is estimated at Euro 100 billion and the Germany-wide turnover of the segments represented at Security Essen alone at Euro 11 billion - with an upward tendency. This good development characterised the course of the trade fair: 26 percent of the visitors stated that their companies will spend over Euro 250,000 on security next year; 13 percent want to invest over Euro 1 million. The decision takers came to Security Essen in order to prepare these purchases: 82 percent of the trade visitors are involved in procurement measures in their companies. A quarter of the trade visitors placed orders directly at the fair. The exhibitors are very satisfied with how the fair has gone: Over 95 percent of the companies are expecting good post-fair business.
Security Essen as a Platform for Numerous Innovations Relating to All Aspects of Civil Security
Obtaining information about new products and services and about trends in the sector, maintaining business contacts and preparing investments were at the very top of the agenda of the trade visitors. Guaranteeing the security of public spaces, transport security, monitoring areas and security for buildings and installations were important subjects for them. There, system solutions are in ever greater demand.
The exhibitors showed numerous innovations which extended from the individual product right up to the complete solution equipment. One conspicuous feature was the strong presence of smartphone-capable developments: Cameras and alarm installations can be controlled with mobile phones on which the owner can have displayed who is standing in front of his door. A system for monitoring tilted windows using a smartphone was shown as well. Mobile phones are also suitable as contactless keys for opening doors. Moreover, camera technology has been refined extremely. It was possible to see systems which, only after an incident relevant to security, make previously pixelled people recognisable. Messe Essen honoured particularly pioneering innovations with the Security Innovation Award. The prize winners included a security door closer from Assa Abloy Sicherheitstechnik which is equipped with an escape door opener for simple retrofitting on fire and smoke protection doors in conformity with the standards as well as a 360-degree camera from Syperion GmbH which creates precise panoramic images.
Security Essen once again received good assessments for its internationality, the range of innovations on offer as well as the contact and information possibilities
Top-Class International Supporting Programme with the Participation of the EU Commission
International institutions also used Security Essen as an information platform. For example, the European Commission staged its Security Conference at the trade fair. With the title of "Security Research Meets Industry: Growth. Technology. Markets", experts provided information, amongst other subjects, about strategies for the security industry as well as about possibilities of safeguarding borders or alerting the population and sought the dialogue with partners from industry. The strong presence of the EU Commission highlighted the status of the fair: Thus, the fair was opened by Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EU Commission and Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship. Gilles de Kerchove, Anti-Terror Coordinator of the European Union, obtained information at Security Essen. For the first time, the European Commission was also represented at the trade fair with a booth on which research-oriented companies and institutes presented themselves.
An independent theme park was dedicated to the subject of "IT Security" which is becoming ever more important. There and in freely accessible lectures, experts provided generally comprehensible information about hacker attacks, cyber crime and protective measures. For the first time, exhibitors from the Fire Protection section were represented in two halls. In Halls 1 and 9, more than 140 companies (a plus of over 30 percent) showed products and services for everything to do with installation technology, operational and constructional fire protection as well as fire alarm and smoke and gas warning equipment.
On the "First Training and Further Education Day", the fair, together with Bundesverband der Sicherheitswirtschaft (BDSW - "Federal Association of the Security Industry"), focused on the occupational chances at security service providers. In live demonstrations on the "Fire Protection Day", the professional fire service in Essen and exhibitors showed how dangerous fires can be fought optimally and what new products are available.
Next Security Essen on September 23 - 26, 2014
The trade visitors praised the extensive range available at Security Essen. The trade fair once again received good assessments for its internationality, the range of innovations on offer as well as the contact and information possibilities. Even now, 93 percent of the visitors and of the exhibitors were already stating that they intended to come back for the next Security Essen which will take place at Messe Essen on September 23 - 26, 2014.
Michael Bräuer, Marketing Manager, ABUS August Bremicker Soehne KG:
The strong presence of the EU Commission highlighted the status of the fair: Thus, the fair was opened by Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EU Commission
The contact and cooperation with our longstanding trading partners were outstanding at this year's Security Essen. Our booth was more than well-visited throughout the duration of the fair. Due to the many product fields of ABUS, we were able to win over new customers as well. The trend is heading towards networking from the admission control via the alarm installation right up to the locking installation. Most of our regular clients come from Germany but we were able to discern a tendency towards internationality.
Rick Cappiello, Global Director of Security Sales, NAPCO:
It was a productive show for helping us find new representations in Europe and Africa. We saw a wide range of Security dealers we wouldn't see at other shows in America. We look forward to returning again in 2 years.
Peter Hohl, Managing Director, SecuMedia Verlags-GmbH:
It has been shown that IT security is an important subject. The concept of the open forum was also accepted very well by the visitors.
Gert van Iperen, Divisional Chairman, Bosch Sicherheitssysteme GmbH:
Security is the most important fair for us. We had visitors from over 40 countries on our booth. There was particular demand for video solutions in HD as well as for the new products and systems in the field of fire alarm technology. The "cloud-based security and services" which were introduced for the first time at the fair (a solution for small and medium-sized enterprises which guarantees the complete building security via Internet) were also strongly frequented.
Erik Kahlert, Fire Safety & Security Manager for Germany, Building Technologies Division, Siemens:
Security 2012 was an absolutely successful fair for us: enthusiastic customers, journalists and booth employees. We are also especially pleased about the positive feedback with regard to our booth concept called "Safe and Secure in the City". In this respect, the visitors were able to accompany us on a walk through the safe and secure city and to get acquainted with our latest overall solutions from security and fire protection technology in an intensive and comprehensive way. We are already looking forward to being involved once again in two years.
Friedrich P. Kötter, Managing Director, Westdeutscher Wach- und Schutzdienst Fritz Kötter (belonging to the KÖTTER group of companies):
Security 2012 has gone successfully for KÖTTER Security and it was possible to raise the number of fair contacts even further. Because it was the 20th participation, I am especially pleased to be able to make such a positive assessment precisely on this anniversary. A lot of new contacts were established and existing business relations were intensified even more. Particularly our new mobile fire simulator called KÖTTER Fire Eagle has aroused keen interest.
Stefan Pieck, Manager, Security Services & Systems Division, CASSIDIAN:
It was our first appearance at Security Essen but will certainly not be our last one! We are very satisfied with the course of the fair
We are once again satisfied with the response of our key customers to this year's Security Essen. The quality and intensity of the discussions show that the interest in the large and custom-built turnkey security technology installations which we have planned and built is continuing to grow and that especially our "Operations" business model, i.e. the investment in and operation of these installations, is set up in a very future-oriented way.
Dipl.-Ing. Richard Rackl, Managing Director (Spokesman), CES Group:
Security was a total success for the CES group. Attention focused on the dialogue with our customers. And they came from all over the world. The intensive exchange of opinions with decision takers who showed great interest in our new generation of mechatronic cylinders called OMEGA FLEX should be highlighted in particular. Above all, the flexible "offline", "online" or "virtual" programming possibilities were convincing.
Julian Rutland, Director of Visual Communication Products & Solutions, Canon Europe Ltd.:
It was our first appearance at Security Essen but will certainly not be our last one! We are very satisfied with the course of the fair. We have introduced our four new full-HD-resolution cameras and all four products met with great interest. In addition, we were able to consolidate our partnerships and to establish promising new contacts.
Fabio Rodrigues, Communication Officer, European Commission:
Security Essen gave us the possibility of promoting an interesting dialogue with industry. This was warmly welcomed, above all, by our seven participating projects. From the new and cost-intensive water decontamination technology (Secureau) via the maritime control of the EU (Perseus) right up to advanced detection/control devices - the individual projects primarily had the chance to meet potential future partners and to discuss future market possibilities.
The two-day congress entitled Security Research Event 2012 offered valuable discussions thanks to high-class speakers such as Christian Ehler or Gilles de Kerchove. The main subjects were industrial security policy, alerting possibilities, border management, the experience of the national security research programmes as well as the EU programme called Horizon 2020.
Katja Rümmele, Marketing and PR Manager, ASTRUM IT GmbH:
In spite of our position in a somewhat quieter hall, we had a well-frequented booth. Here, we have encountered all the customers whom we wanted to meet. The greatest demand related to our process-controlled visitor management. Especially the second and third days of the fair were fantastic and we are now hoping for a brilliant conclusion. We have been involved in the IT theme park for a long time already and have felt very well this year too.
Roger D. Shuman, Sr. Marketing Manager, Exacq Technologies Inc.:
Security Essen has been a valuable marketing partner in the growth of Exacq Technologies in Europe. We started participating in Security Essen four years ago by exhibiting at the US Pavillion and this year we introduced our own freestanding booth in Hall 2. We were very impressed not only with the traffic we saw at our stand, but the diverse quality of the visitors including security integrators, distributors and end users.
Franco Spiller, Sales Manager, Global Proof Srl:
Over the years, Security has become the number-one security fair worldwide. Moreover, the high internationality of the visitors is unique in Essen
We are very satisfied with how the fair has gone. One conspicuous feature is the high professionalism of the visitors and of the exhibitors as well. Over the years, Security has become the number-one security fair worldwide. Moreover, the high internationality of the visitors is unique in Essen. Our visitors came from all parts of the Earth, e.g. from Africa, Brazil, Canada and Russia. There was also great praise for the excellent organisation of the event by the fair company not only on the spot in Essen but also in advance in Italy. We would like to be involved once again in two years.
Werner Wagner, Proprietor, Wagner Group GmbH:
It was an absolutely outstanding fair for us. We had a lot to offer for the numerous visitors to our booth since we have introduced a genuine world innovation with our newest fire detector. This device carries out the early fire recognition using an optical detector without any gas sensors.
