IFSEC 2016: Engineers of Tomorrow annual competition for fire & security apprentice engineers now fully-booked

64 of fire and security industry’s young engineers will head to IFSEC 2016 to put their skills against each other in live installation challenge IFSEC International, organised by UBM EMEA, have recently announced that all places on the prestigious Engineers of Tomorrow annual competition are now filled. 64 of the fire and security industry’s brightest young engineers will head to IFSEC International over the 21-23 June 2016 to put their skills against each other in a live installation challenge at Europe’s largest security exhibition. Engineers of Tomorrow is part of Apprenticeships for Fire & Security, an initiative that places apprentices into careers in the security industry and supports their development. Supported by IFSEC, CSL DualCom, NSI, SSAIB and Skills for Security, the scheme has already helped launch the careers of more than 3,000 young apprentices. At the heart of the installation apprentice and young engineer industry, the competition will provide participants with a global stage to compete against their peers and represent their company. Companies involved included; Fidelity Integrated Systems, Abel Alarm Co, Highgrade fire&security, Chubb F&S, CBRE, Tyco, Red Alert, VocalVale, H+J Martin, Ambush Security, Wessex Alarms, Captstan Security, Secure One, CIA, SES Yeovil, William Hale, Custom Alarms and the defending champions Tel Cam Security Systems and Kings Security. 90-minute live challenge at IFSEC 2016 The apprentice engineers will participate in the 90-minute live challenge that takes place on the lively exhibition floor at IFSEC International. They will then be assessed by a leading panel of judges from the security inspectorates, NSI and SSAIB, and points are allocated based on performance in the various disciplines. Heat winners and their employers will be invited to the prestigious Security & Fire Excellence Awards, taking place on Wednesday 23 November 2016 where the final winner will be announced and awarded a £1000 cash prize. The competition allows employers and apprentices to showcase their skill sets on a world stage.” UBM EMEA’s Protection & Management Series IFSEC International will host over 600 global leading suppliers under one roof across the three days at London’s ExCeL this summer, with the likes of Tyco, Milestone, UTC, Texecom, Salto, Paxton, Hikvision, Dahua, Assa Abloy, AXIS, Canon, CAME and Marshalls to name a few already confirmed. The 2016 show will also welcome more than 65 new exhibitors. IFSEC & FIREX International will once again be presented as part of UBM EMEA’s Protection & Management Series, the UK’s largest event dedicated to protecting and managing property, people and information. The series incorporates major events including IFSEC International along with FIREX International, Facilities Show, Safety & Health Expo and Service Management Expo. The series of events annually attracts more than 40,000 attendees over three days to ExCeL London and is the centre of excellence across security, fire, safety and facilities.

Jessica Lutwyche joins Wessex Fire & Security as Service Manager

Jess was promoted to Small Works Installation Manager before being appointed Wessex Fire & Security has appointed Jessica Lutwyche as its Service Manager, overseeing a 30-strong team of engineers, technicians and admin staff. The company is part of the Wessex Group that Jess joined eight years ago in an administration role. After moving to the fire and security business she was quickly promoted to Small Works Installation Manager before being appointed to the new position. The role means she also joins the Senior Management team of Wessex Fire & Security, headed by Managing Director Chris Stott with Paul Budden, Installation Manager, and Tracey Martin, Quality Manager. Wessex Fire & Security is based in Shaftesbury, Dorset, and is active in all areas of fire and security across the south. Jess to work across both the fire & security parts of the business The company employs 80 staff and has a turnover of £7m, and Jess will work across both the fire and security parts of the business. Chris Stott said: “Jess is extremely customer-focused and is actually one of the group’s customer service coaches. She will be a good addition to an excellent management team. “We are a business that is growing and part of an industry within which the technology changes quickly and Jess’s energy and enthusiasm will be important as we go forward.” Jess said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge. “We have great staff here and everyone feels very much part of a team which will make things easier. “Wessex Fire & Security is a great company to work for and our ambition is to grow while remaining focused on customer service.”

Paul Joy joins Wessex as Major Works Installation Manager

Paul brings experience of strategic planning surrounding large and complicated projects Wessex Fire & Security has appointed Paul Joy as Major Works Installation Manager. The company, based in Shaftesbury, Dorset, is part of the Wessex Group and works across the south of the country. Paul's previous experience Paul Joy has previously run his own electrical contracting business and has also worked for some of the biggest names in the sector. The industry veteran who lives in New Milton, Hampshire, brings experience of strategic planning surrounding large and complicated projects. He said: “Wessex Fire & Security is incredibly well-regarded throughout the industry and it is enjoyable to be working for such a professional company. “Wessex has some impressive contracts and dedicated engineers who make things easier for me. “I’m looking forward to helping grow the business by further developing the good working relationships Wessex Fire & Security has with its clients and demonstrating how effective we are.” Wessex Fire & Security, MD comments Chris Stott, MD of Wessex Fire & Security, said: “To bring in a hugely experienced manager such as Paul signals our ambition. “His expertise in project management will be put to very good use overseeing our larger contracts. “While we work across domestic and commercial sectors, Paul’s role will very much be with the major works.” Wessex Fire & Security is over 30 years old, employs 76 people and has a turnover of more than £7m.
